I used to have Win XP, but I changed it to Win7, everything was alright, but the problem began when I tried to install the drivers for my graphic card, a NVIDIA 8500 gt. I downloaded the driver for win7 32 bits, but the results were bad, it stuck and just when the desktop is going to appear, it freezes the system and I have to restart.

I couldn't make the graphic card work. The only way I can access to the PC is using "Safe Mode", there I can see the graphic card in the hardware list, and it says the whole specifications of the graphic card.

I think is the driver, because I restore the PC, just before the moment I installed the drivers and the computer was fine, but the graphic card was useless, I even tried to use it without the drivers, but it was useless.

In case you want to know I have a bearlake g31 motherboard and the video card is a Biostar NVIDIA geforce 8500GT, 512 mb.

BTW, I used both drivers Biostar website and NVIDIA website. Both, cases I restored the system.

I would really appreciate your help.

It sounds like you're facing some issues with installing the NVIDIA 8500 GT drivers on Windows 7. Since the system freezes during normal startup after driver installation but works in Safe Mode, the problem likely lies with the installed driver conflicting with the system. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Uninstall Existing Drivers:
    • Start the computer in Safe Mode.
    • Uninstall all NVIDIA drivers from "Device Manager."
    • Use a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to thoroughly remove any remaining driver traces.
    []Install Driver in Compatibility Mode:

    • Uninstall all NVIDIA drivers from "Device Manager."
    • Use a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to thoroughly remove any remaining driver traces.
    []Install Driver in Compatibility Mode:
    • Download the Nvidia driver for Windows 7 32-bit from Nvidia's official website.
    • Right-click on the driver installer, go to Properties, and then the Compatibility tab.
    • Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows XP or Windows Vista.
    • Run the installer in compatibility mode.
    [
    ]Update Windows:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 is fully updated through Windows Update.
    • Some driver issues are resolved by having the latest Windows updates.
    []Check BIOS Settings:
    • Ensure that the BIOS settings are correctly configured, especially related to the motherboard's graphic settings.
    [
    ]Verify Hardware Compatibility:
    • Confirm that the NVIDIA 8500 GT is compatible with your motherboard (Bearlake G31) and that the PCIe slot is functioning properly.
    []Alternative Drivers:
    • Try using older versions of the NVIDIA drivers to see if compatibility improves.
    • Look for modified drivers (third-party drivers) that might have better compatibility.
    [
    ]Check for System File Corruption:
    • Run a System File Checker scan to check for and repair corrupted system files.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run: sfc /scannow.
  2. Check Event Viewer Logs:
    • Look in the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages related to the driver installation or the GPU.

      Additional Information:

    • Driver Sources: If the drivers from both the Biostar and NVIDIA websites didn't work, you could try looking for modified drivers from enthusiast forums. These drivers are sometimes more compatible with older hardware. Try these steps and see if they help resolve the issue with installing the NVIDIA 8500 GT drivers on Windows 7. If you encounter any specific error messages or need further assistance, feel free to provide more details.
