Windows 10 The handle is invalid message

I have on a network drive a folder that contains downloaded movies and TV shows. If I try to open the folder so I can play a file, I get the "handle is invalid" message. I had this problem with Windows 7 and the problem has stayed with the upgrade to Windows 10. If I go to a different PC that is connected to the same network but is running Ubunta, I have no problem playing any of the files (movies). I have copied/pasted the folder to another drive but the Windows problem remains. Help.

I meant to say a very large folder.
This thread has been posted for some time with no responses.
To the moderator : does this mean the problem is of no interest
being solved by any one?

I am sure you will get help. I don't understand why no one has, until now, chipped in with a solution.
Anyway, I'll start. One major reason for this message, in your particular case, is that the program you are using to playback, is not equipped to cope with such files. This is why it will play in Ubuntu, but not in Windows. Could you post which two programs you use?

Thank you for responding. I was beginning to feel left out in the cold.
In Windows I am just trying to open the FOLDER (left double click or right
click and clicking on open). I get the message: Location is not available
The handle is invalid. This folder, which contains a bunch of AVI files,
is on a network drive which is inside a Synology server on my home network.
I can open the folder using a PC running Ubuntu with no problem.
I have copied the folder using the Ubuntu PC to a spare external USB drive
and then connecting that drive to a Windows PC and I get the same message
when I try to open the folder. This leads me to believe that the network has
nothing to do with this problem. Something is wrong with this folder.
