Open the Control Panel (icon view) and then Default Programs.
Open "Associate a program...etc"
Scroll down to .doc. It should have an entry for Microsoft word (See attached picture)
If not, click the "Change" icon (Top right). If you do not see Microsoft Word in the window, browse to the Winword.exe and associate it by selecting.
