I am wondering if it is my hdd or something else, if I transfer a big file "3gig" from partition 2 to partition 1, at the same time, open up IE or anything, My system becomes very sluggish, transfer speeds shows copying the 3 gig file from 30 mb/s & drops to 20 mb/s when I try to open something, this is another thing, 30 mb/s? that seems to be very slow. other than the pc is very quick just in middle of operations of transferring stuff becomes very sluggish.

comments?

Solution
Go to a command prompt in the windows\system32 folder and Type and enter:

"winsat disk -seq -read -drive c"

(and you will get a report on your hard drive read speed.) I get 87.49 mb/s while uploading files. (6.2)
on 7,200 rpm SATA 750 gb hard drive.

Repace -read with -write and get a report on your hard drive write speed. I get 62.66 mb/s (5.8)

Also test your memory "Winsat mem" I got 15427.87 MB/s with 3 GB DDR3.
It's because all the activity is on the same drive, I assume? The transfer speeds sound ok. I tested a 3gig iso transfer from one drive to another and was getting around 60MB/s, so 30 sounds right considering it's reading/writing to/from the same drive.

yea ok that makes sense, both partitions are on same hard drive.

Thanks Bud.
