Windows 7 Triple Boot issue?

Fwiw. He spelt "Partition" wrongly, in his last command attempt.

my bad, i didn't notice, thanks for the correction.

i just tried it through command all went successful, but i get the same error as before saying the driver is not digitally signed with error code???

this is so weird, like really...

That's interesting - did you change the BIOS boot order at any stage ?

Go to Folder Options and make sure hidden files and folders and protected operating systems are showing.

Have a look at the Vista partition AND the 7 partition . Where do you see these two files?

i see them in the windows 7, cause i made windows 7 my default OS upon boot up.. from that easybcd program?

so yea none in vista just windows 7...

well if i change the boot order in the bois which i did before, i don't get a boot menu, it loads straight into windows 7...

That sounds right , you would expect bootmgr and Boot folder on XP and 7 partitions but not Vista partition.

Keep 7 HD first in BIOS boot order.

Install Easybcd on 7.

Add Vista entry and XP entry using Easybcd in 7.

Take care with the drive letters - use the drive letters for XP and Vista partitions AS SEEN WHEN BOOTED INTO 7.

well im surprised when i put the win 7 hdd first it actually showed a boot up menu with all the 3, and windows 7 works, but now when i try xp it restarts my computer???

we fix the issue and get another issue... truly amazing...

so now what do i do..

thanks for the help... once again..

You would be better copying the XP bootfiles from XP partition onto 7 partition.

Boot into 7

Copy and paste ntldr, boot.ini and ntdetect.com. onto root of 7 partition.

Open Easybcd and delete the XP entry.

Then add a new XP entry - this time point it at C

ok so let me get this straight,

u want me to log into xp then copy the bootfiles?

then boot into windows 7 and copy them into the root of win 7

then etc...

ok now i wanted to know where do i find the bootfiles in xp and were do u want me to put them in the win 7??

and lastly u want me to add the entry of xp but as the C: drive??

thanks once again...

LOL almost.

BOOT INTO 7.

Make sure hidden files and protected o/s files are showing.

Stay booted into 7 and look on the XP partition - you will see them.

They look similar to this:

Copy and paste the three files directly onto C.

Open EASYbcd and remove the XP entry you made earlier.

Ad a new XP entry and choose C as the drive - because you now have copies of the XP bootfiles on C.

also when im finding the files from xp u know how u said get boot.ini

i don't see that, i just see boot. does that mean the samething..

and i added the entry...

well getting close, but how close.. lol

Did you copy the file called boot onto the 7 as well? You need to do that.

Ther is also a pale yellow folder called Boot - do not copy that.

( you only see the .ini if you have have chosen to have file extensions showing - you can do that in Folder Options).

Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management while booted into 7.

Also the contents of bcd - from the Easybcd program.

Also rt click boot.ini, select edit ( it will open in notepad) - copy and paste the contents into your post.

Do you have this option on the version of Easybcd you are using? If so , use it.

thanks for the help...

thank you so much, appreciate it...

it worked... wahoo..

just one more thing,

like when i select windows xp from boot menu it goes into another similar boot menu allowing me to choose windows xp or windows default, anyway of getting rid of that??

once again thank you so much...

I probably didn't set up that boot.ini quite right.

I don't have XP - so it is an educated guess.

Rename the boot.ini on your drive to boot.ini.old2

then use this one ( should be better) :

with the other bootold.ini and bootold2.ini do i need them in windows 7 partition or delete them?

thanks once again...

sorry, i bumped another issue, well it happened when i pluged my storage HDD back in to the sata port, i had it out since i don't have enough sata ports on my board to run the dvd rom, but since everything was working went to put things how they were and now i get this following error when i try to start windows xp

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll

please re install a copy of the above file.

thanks...

Hi,

LOL - you have enough questions to keep a Forum going all on your own.

You don't need the bootold.ini and bootold2.ini any more.

Plug your external HD in - boot into 7 - have a look in Disk Management and see what is different.

You could also post a screenshot of it.

The boot.ini you have now - the one that worked properly - is pointing at XP on Disk 1 , Partition 1.
