Hi Everyone
I broke my own rule and tried to upgrade from Vista home premium to Windows 7 and whilst the upgrade seemed to go fine and my system was working ok (a part from an error I get whenever I boot up) but now after 1 automatic fix upload by Windows 7 my system takes a very long time to boot up and then either actually crashes or runs like a real dog.
Is anyone else having problems afer upgrading?
Should I just bite the bullet and go with a new install?
One good thing my Linux machine (dual-boot) still works fine although 7 did kick Grub out and I had to do some re-config.
Looking forward to some good ideas
Joseph

Hi Joseph, It sounds like you're facing some issues after trying to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7. Here are some suggestions to help you resolve the problems you're experiencing:
1. Boot-up Speed and Performance Issues:
- Slow Boot-Up: Slow boot-up times and poor performance after an upgrade could indicate compatibility issues or system errors.
- Error on Boot: The error you're receiving during boot-up might give insights into the underlying issue.
2. Steps to Resolve the Issues:
- Check Event Viewer: Look into the Event Viewer for any error messages and warnings that might provide more details about what's going wrong.
- Startup Repair: Perform a startup repair using the Windows 7 installation disk. This can fix boot issues and errors.
- System Restore: Consider using System Restore to revert back to a point before the automatic fix was applied.
- Clean Install: If the issues persist, a clean installation of Windows 7 might be the best solution to ensure a fresh and stable system.
- Drivers and Updates: Ensure all drivers are up to date and compatible with Windows 7 to avoid performance issues.
3. Reinstalling Windows 7:
If the problems persist and you've exhausted troubleshooting options, a clean installation of Windows 7 is recommended. This ensures a fresh start and can often resolve many upgrade-related issues.4. Linux Dual-Boot:
If your Linux machine is working fine and you had to reconfigure GRUB after the Windows 7 upgrade, it's good that the dual-boot setup is still functional. Just ensure that GRUB is set up correctly to boot into both Linux and Windows.5. Backing Up Data:
Before proceeding with any major changes such as a clean install, ensure you have backups of important data to prevent any loss during the process. Feel free to provide more details about the specific error you encounter during boot-up, and I can assist you further in resolving the issue.
