I have a Acer Aspire M5100-u5300a and I made the decision to get rid of Windows CRAPsta. I went with Win7 x64 Pro. I know that I should've run the upgrade advisor but I was sure it could handle it. Well I installed 7 and in the device manager there are no conflicts, but I have a couple of problems: (1) after the windows splash screen and before the desktop gets loaded I get an all white screen for about 10sec. then the desktop loads and everything is fine... sometimes when that annoyinig UAC message window appears I notice some random lines on my monitor (I can live with this problem) (2) the sound card is not recognized (3) [this is my main concern] I cannot connect to the internet. My ethernet port is working and recognizes when the cable is inserted or removed; I know that my Fios router is working because I have another computer running XP that is connected to the net via ethernet so I know that it's not the router (i think). I keep getting that yellow exclamation mark that says "No internet access" I've run the troubleshoot method where it disables/enables the port and renews the IP address... nothing seems to work! Any suggestions?

It sounds like you're encountering some issues after upgrading your Acer Aspire M5100-u5300a to Windows 7 x64 Pro. Let's address each problem step by step:

White Screen Before Desktop Loads

The white screen you see before the desktop loads could be related to graphics driver issues. Here's what you can do:
  1. Update Graphics Drivers: Visit the Acer website or the AMD website to download and install the latest graphics drivers for your ATI Radeon X1250 Integrated Graphics.

Sound Card Not Recognized

To fix the issue with the sound card not being recognized:
  1. Update Sound Drivers: Go to the Acer support website and download the latest drivers for your sound card or use the Device Manager in Windows to update the sound drivers.

    Internet Connectivity Issue

Since your Ethernet port is recognized but you can't connect to the internet, let's troubleshoot it:
  2. Update Ethernet Drivers: Ensure you have the latest network adapter drivers installed. You can find these on the Acer support website.
  3. Check IP Settings:
    • Check if your network adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
    • Open Command Prompt and run the command ipconfig /all to check your network configuration.
[]Check Network Cable: Make sure the Ethernet cable is properly connected and not damaged. []Reset TCP/IP Stack: You can try resetting the TCP/IP stack by running some commands in Command Prompt:
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Run the following commands one by one:
      Code:
netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset
[]Check Firewall and Antivirus: Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus to see if they are blocking internet access. []Check Router Configuration: Ensure your router settings are correct. Sometimes a MAC address filter on the router can prevent a new device from connecting.
  4. Network Troubleshooter: Run the Network Troubleshooter in Windows 7:
    • Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Troubleshoot problems.

      Additional Notes

      • Make sure all Windows updates are installed as they can sometimes include crucial driver updates.
      • If you keep experiencing issues, consider a clean installation of Windows 7 where you format the drive and reinstall the operating system from scratch.
Try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance!
