Windows 7 unable to delete

For some reason I can't delete or move or rename a .mkv file. It says "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program Close the file and try again"

I've tried rebooting in safe mode and still get the same message.

I was wanting to move this file to another drive to free up some space. I did a search and tried one suggestion of the program "unblocker". But that didn't work.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can move this file?

Thanks is advance!!

Hi

The sure way is to boot into Ubuntu and use it to move the file.
I know that seems kind of extreme but I have a Ubuntu disk just for things like this.

It's easy to make a disk and if Windows crashes you will always have a way to get into your computer and save things before reinstalling.

The "This Program is Open in another Application" messages are frustrating because unlike the permissions errors it's almost impossible to override them.

I assume you have already copied the file to another location.

If you have Malwarebytes installed it has a forced file removal app called File Assassin under the more tools tab.
I haven't found that it will always work but you can give that a try.
