Hey everyone,

I'm currently running a Dell Inspiron 1545 Computer. It has Dual 2.00 Ghz processors and an Intel GM45 integrated graphics card.

It originally came with Vista 64 bit, but I made the switch over to Windows 7. The computer previously worked with my TV, which is a 19" Vizio LCD, through VGA mode. Since then, I have had some water damage occur to my computer. I brought it to Best Buy where I have a three year accidental damage coverage. They took my computer and replaced all broken parts, and were even able to save my hard drive and all its information. Upon receipt of my fixed computer, I promptly reformatted it and reinstalled Windows 7, just in case any software was corrupted throughout the whole fixing process. I recently wanted to connect my computer up to my TV, and when I connect the screens, the TV just lags and says "VGA mode not compatible".

I've looked online and tried various methods. I tried scaling my resolution down to 800x600 and working my way back up, nothing. I tried to change my refresh rate, but it only has one setting: 60 hz. I searched for newer graphics drivers, and I am currently using the most recent one. I know the computer's VGA port has to have some functionality because when I connect the VGA cable to the TV it blank screens for a second and shows my TV as the second monitor under screen resolution settings, just nothing shows on the TV.

If anyone can please help me with this issue I'd greatly appreciate it as its been bothering me all day. Thanks.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with connecting your Dell Inspiron 1545 computer to your Vizio LCD TV through VGA mode after some repairs were done due to water damage. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check VGA Cable and Ports: Ensure that the VGA cable is securely connected to both your computer and the TV. Inspect the cable for any visible damage. Try using a different VGA cable or a different VGA port on your computer, if available.
  2. TV Input Settings: Ensure that your Vizio TV is set to receive input from the VGA port. Use the TV remote to navigate to the correct input source (VGA).
  3. Update Graphics Drivers:...

  2. TV Input Settings: Ensure that your Vizio TV is set to receive input from the VGA port. Use the TV remote to navigate to the correct input source (VGA).
  3. Update Graphics Drivers: Although you mentioned that you have the most recent graphics drivers installed, it might be worth trying to reinstall or update the graphics drivers again. Sometimes, a clean driver installation can resolve compatibility issues.
  4. Adjust Resolution and Display Settings:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution."
    • Check if the TV is detected in the display settings. If it's detected, you can try to extend or duplicate your display to the TV.
    • Set the resolution to match the native resolution of your TV (check the TV manual for the recommended resolution).
    • Try different resolutions and see if any of them work.
[]Check TV Compatibility: Some older TVs might have limitations on the supported resolutions and refresh rates through the VGA input. Check your TV's user manual for the supported resolutions and refresh rates for the VGA input. []Try Different VGA Ports: If your computer has multiple VGA ports, try using a different port to see if it works. []Test on Another Monitor/TV: If possible, try connecting your computer to a different monitor or TV to see if the issue is specific to the Vizio TV. []VGA to HDMI Adapter: As a last resort, if your Vizio TV has an HDMI input, you could try using a VGA to HDMI adapter to connect your computer to the TV through HDMI. If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could be a compatibility problem between your computer and the TV due to the repairs that were done. In that case, you may need to consult with technical support for further assistance. Let me know if you need more detailed guidance on any of these steps!
