You need to examine the ip configuration of your system. Go to a command prompt and enter the command:

ipconfig /all

If you need help interpreting the output post it here

I have a couple of questions for you to help us help you further.

Is it a new network you are setting up?

Are you sure you have network connection from your provider and are they tight and secure at the source(s)?

Log into your router by way of the (if it is not changed) the default IP address, usually 192.168.1.1. and see if the WAN (Wide Area Network) port is registered to the router.

If you are running windows 7 you can click onto the red X and a diagnostics window will pop up and try to help you figure out why you are not connected to the internet.
