Windows 10 Video Thumbnails wont update in preview pane

My video thumbnails in the explorer preview pane wont update. It shows me the preview of the first video thumbnail but when i select another, the preview remains the same in the preview pane.
I was using windows 8.1 -- which didn't have this problem -- when I upgraded to Windows 10. I like everything about Windows 10 so far EXCEPT this.

See a video here showing the issue: https://vimeo.com/138204107

Someone in another forum recommended installing VLC media player and associating all video files with it. This worked for some users who were experiencing this issue, but it didn't work for me unfortunately. And rebuilding the thumbnail cache didn't help either.

I went into a Best Buy and downloaded a few sample mpgs on a brand new Surface 3 running Windows 10 and the same issue -- preview pane video thumbnails do not update from video to video. I'm really surprised there hasn't been more said about this, and the only fix--for some people at least--has been to install vlc and set it as the default video player, which is a pretty shoddy workaround, imo.

Anyone else experiencing this, and if so, any suggestions?

I can not replicate your issue... thumbnails in preview pane are updating here on a clean Windows 10 Insider build 10532...

If you have a codec pack installed, remove it and reinstall.

If not, install Shark007's Codecs. I use them on every machine I have. These codecs will make "every" video file play in WMP and the program has a reset option for the thumbnails.

Please read this if you have problems and to know how to reset the thumbnail cache.

Watch out while installing so you don't get unwanted extra's ! ;)
Please always run this program as administrator.

Been a longtime fan of Shark's codecs (but NOT the unwanted extras, obviously) so I actually already have them installed.
But I don't think this is a codec issue since a Surface Pro at Best Buy with nothing extra on it had the same issue. And so have a lot of users I've read in several forums.
I'm starting to think that certain builds of Windows 10 have this issue while others don't. My build is 10240, upgraded from 8.1 (which didn't have this issue).
Given the various posts I've seen here about the bug, MS must know about it. Let's hope a fix will come soon.

Indeed, Shark007's Codecs are the real deal !

Anyway, if they were installed on your Windows 8.1 and you didn't (re)install them after your upgrade to Windows 10, I would uninstall them and reinstall again. They could be messed up by the upgrade?

But you could be right that a future MS update will simply solve the problem for you.
