Windows 7 Visual Basic and Windows 7 64 bit

Hi, I have done some research and want to start programming again with Visual Basic, but VB6 and Windows 7 64 bit are not compatible. Any suggestions as to what I should go to next?

VB6 applications can be run under windows 7 64-bit without any problem.

Many of popular softwares are complied with VB6, i.e. Joy Fax Server, etc.
