When you encounter the message "Waiting for background program to close" during shutdown on your notebook, it indicates that Windows is waiting for certain programs or processes to close before completing the shutdown process. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

  1. Task Manager:
    • Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
    • Go to the "Processes" tab to see which programs and services are currently running.

      Steps to Resolve the Issue:

    []End Tasks:
    • Manually end tasks or processes that are non-essential by right-clicking on them in the Task Manager and selecting "End Task".
    [
    ]Software Updates:
    • Ensure that all your software is up to date. Sometimes background programs can cause delays during shutdown due to outdated software.
    []Automatic Startup Programs:
    • Review your startup programs to disable any unnecessary programs that start with Windows.
    • You can manage startup programs in Task Manager's "Startup" tab.
    [
    ]Clean Boot:
    • Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs to identify if a third-party program is causing the delay during shutdown.
  2. Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date by installing the latest updates. By following these steps, you should be able to identify the services or programs that are causing the delay during shutdown and take appropriate action to resolve the issue.
