question. i am sharing my wifi over the ehternet to test something out. Is there anyway to change the default dhcp settings, since it makes my PC the host now, to a different network than the 192.x.x.x?

I want to have the eithernet be in the 10.0.0.x network even though it gets the wifi from the 192.168.0.x network. thanks

Solution
To change the default DHCP settings for sharing your Wi-Fi connection over Ethernet and have your Ethernet network in the 10.0.0.x IP range while the Wi-Fi remains in the 192.168.0.x range, you can follow these steps:

Change DHCP Settings for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS):

  1. Access Network Connections:
    • Open the Network Connections settings on your PC.
  2. Identify Wi-Fi and Ethernet Adapters:
    • Identify your Wi-Fi adapter (connected to the 192.168.0.x network) and your Ethernet adapter (to be configured for the 10.0.0.x network).
  3. Modify Ethernet Adapter Settings:
    • Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Properties.

  3. Modify Ethernet Adapter Settings:
    • Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Properties.
  4. Set Static IP address:
    • Go to the TCP/IPv4 configuration.
    • Choose Use the following IP address and set the IP to an address in the 10.0.0.x range.
  5. Modify ICS Settings:
    • Navigate to the Wi-Fi adapter properties used for the Internet connection.
    • Go to the Sharing tab and disable Internet Connection Sharing if enabled.
  6. Manually Configure ICS:
    • Re-enable Internet Connection Sharing on the Wi-Fi adapter and manually set/configure IP addresses and settings for both adapters.
  7. Set DNS and Gateway:
    • Ensure you set the Default Gateway and DNS server IPs correctly on the Ethernet adapter within the 10.0.0.x range.

      Caveats:

      • After configuring the settings, ensure to restart both adapters or disable/enable them for changes to take effect effectively.
      • Reserve IP addresses and ensure no conflicts exist between devices on the network.
By following these steps, you can set up ICS on your PC to have the Ethernet network in the 10.0.0.x range while using the Wi-Fi for internet access on a different subnet.
