I just installled windows 7
Everything worked fine , except my sound card ; Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit
In fact there are drivers in creative's site, that i downloaded and installed
This sound card is connected to my Sony amplifier through spdif

In WinXP everything worked like a charm ; all audio was coming out of SPDIF to my amplifier

BUT in Win7 even if i set the digital audio interface as the default, even if i disable the analog interface (speakers) when i play 2ch audio (mp3 , youtube etc) the audio doesn't come out of my SPDIF!!

I've set up AC3Filter so , lets say playing movies with dolby or dts work perfevtly fine!

Any ideas on how i can get 2chanel audio through SPDIF???

PS This issue is driving me CRAZY! lol

Solution
It seems like you've encountered an issue with your Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit sound card in Windows 7 where you're unable to get 2-channel audio through SPDIF, even though you've set the digital audio interface as the default. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit sound card. Sometimes, older drivers may not fully support newer operating systems like Windows 7. You mentioned that you downloaded and installed drivers from Creative's website, but it's worth double-checking if there are any newer versions available.
  2. Check Sound Settings:

You mentioned that you downloaded and installed drivers from Creative's website, but it's worth double-checking if there are any newer versions available.
  2. Check Sound Settings:
    • Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Playback devices."
    • Ensure that the SPDIF output is set as the default playback device. You can right-click on the SPDIF output and choose "Set as Default Device."
    []Disable Exclusive Mode:
    • Right-click on the SPDIF output in the "Playback devices" window and select "Properties."
    • Go to the "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option that says “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device.”
    • This can sometimes resolve issues where applications take control of the audio output.
    [
    ]Configure Audio Formats:
    • In the "Advanced" tab of the SPDIF output properties, you can configure the supported audio formats. Make sure the formats you need (such as stereo) are enabled.
    []AC3Filter Settings:
    • Since you mentioned that playing movies with Dolby or DTS works fine, check the settings in AC3Filter to ensure they are not conflicting with the 2-channel audio output.
    [
    ]Test with Different Media:
    • Try playing audio from different sources to isolate if the issue is specific to certain applications. Test with local music files as well as online sources.
    []System Update:
    • Ensure that your Windows 7 system is fully up to date with the latest updates and patches.
    [
    ]Creative Support:
    • If none of the above steps work, you may want to reach out to Creative Support for specific guidance on configuring your sound card for Windows 7. Hopefully, one of these steps will help you resolve the issue and get your 2-channel audio working through SPDIF on Windows 7. Good luck, and let me know if you need further assistance!
