Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15042 for PC and Build 15043 for Mobile

Hello Windows Insiders!

Today we are excited to be releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15042 for PC and Build 15043 for Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. We have discovered a bug that impacts our ability to release this build to PCs running 32-bit (x86) versions of Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. Because the majority of Insiders in the Fast ring have PCs running 64-bit (x64) – we decided to go ahead and release this build with 32-bit PCs blocked until our next flight. UPDATE: PCs running 32-bit (x86) versions of Windows 10 Insider Preview builds should be able to receive this build just fine! We fixed the bug. Also – please read the known issues below.

What’s new in Build 15042
New Cortana animation in OOBE (PC): We know how much you love animations, so we wanted to share with you our updated Cortana persona that you’ll see when you land on the Cortana page in OOBE:

Prompt to enable Flash in Microsoft Edge (PC): Back in Build 15002, we introduced click-to-run Flash by default in Microsoft Edge, for better security and performance across the Web. In today’s build, we’ve added a new dialog in the URL bar to make it clearer when Flash content has been blocked. Just click the puzzle icon to allow Flash once or every time you return to the same site.

Improved reading experience with Microsoft Edge: You loved the new Edge reading experience and gave us a TON of feedback. Here are some we implemented:

• When reading a locally saved EPUB book in Microsoft Edge on PC, a book icon will now be used in the place of the previous generic in the tab bar.

• If you switch pages while an EPUB book is being read aloud in Microsoft Edge, the reader will now jump to that new location in the book.
• If you’ve changed the read aloud settings when reading an EPUB in Microsoft Edge, those settings will now be preserved for subsequently opened books.

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for PC

• You should no longer see “Initializing…” when attempting to download new builds.
• The download progress indicator shown when downloading new builds under Settings > Update & security > Windows Update should be working as expected and it should no longer appear you are getting stuck at 0% or at other percentages.
• We fixed the issue causing the Settings app to crash when navigating to Settings > Devices and you should be able to pair a Bluetooth device without any issue. The Bluetooth quick action from Action Center should also now work again. This issue may also have resulted in generally decreased reliability in the quick action section of the Action Center.
• You should be able to launch the Connect UX via Action Center, Win + K, or Settings again.
• We fixed an issue where under Settings > Update & security > Windows Update Insiders might see the text “Some Settings are managed by your organization” even though the PC wasn’t being managed by an organization.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the Action Center sometimes appearing blank and transparent without color.
• We fixed an issue where upgrading with an Xbox controller paired over Bluetooth could result in touch input not working and unexpected beeps when using the mouse.
• We fixed an issue where items displayed in the autocomplete dropdown when filling form fields in Microsoft Edge would not insert when clicked.
• We fixed an issue resulting in images unexpectedly being missing from certain PDFs when viewed in Microsoft Edge.
• We fixed an issue resulting in web notifications not launching the associated website in Microsoft Edge after being clicked.
• We fixed an issue from recent flights resulting in some downloads from Microsoft Edge unexpectedly getting stuck in the “Waiting to download” state.
• We fixed an issue where the preview thumbnails for certain websites appeared blank as they were taken before the webpage ran its JavaScript / Ajax to fully draw its layout.
• We fixed an issue where the calculator button on the keyboard wouldn’t work if Microsoft Edge was in focus.
• We also fixed an issue where Win + Shift + left/right arrow wouldn’t work on Microsoft Edge after selecting text on the open website.
• We fixed an issue where pressing Alt + C with text selected in Microsoft Edge didn’t open the Cortana pane on recent flights.
• We fixed an issue resulting in Microsoft Edge not being able to open the file:// protocol with the AdBlock Plus extension enabled.
• We fixed an issue where in Microsoft Edge, if you were already on a website associated with an app, clicking a link on that website to go somewhere else on the website’s domain would unexpectedly launch the associated app.
• We fixed an issue resulting in not being able to insert words into certain text fields in Microsoft Edge when using the handwriting panel to enter text.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the password placeholder text being unexpectedly shifted down in certain password text fields in Microsoft Edge.
• The new Share icon is now visible in Microsoft Edge and the Windows Ink Workspace Sketchpad and Screen Sketch.
• We fixed an issue we certain devices on recent builds where resuming from hibernation could result in a bug check.
• We fixed an issue where sometimes a single notification toast might not pop up, only to be unexpectedly found duplicated in the Action Center.
• We broadened our recent fix for an issue that had some PCs with older graphics chipsets seeing white or colored boxes in the place of text and some UI elements in UWP apps to cover more hardware.
• If you right-click an app suggestion in Share, you’ll now find a context menu option to turn them off.
• We fixed an issue where ink would go under the Windows Ink protractor when inking with the highlighter.
• We fixed an issue where the first ink stroke into the Windows Ink Workspace Sketchpad wouldn’t enable the clear all button.
• We fixed an issue where the sample ink stroke seen in the Windows Ink pen, pencil and highlighter flyout would appear to blink when the flyout was first opened.
• We fixed an issue that could result in the new XAML scrollbar animation (as seen in Settings) becoming stuck in the transition state.
• We fixed an issue resulting in “Microsoft Camera Front” and “Microsoft Camera Rear” unexpectedly showing up, with barcode scanner icons, as optional devices to connect to in Devices Settings on Surface Books.
• We fixed an issue where explorer.exe might crash the first time an ISO file is double-clicked.
• We fixed an issue from the last flight where if the gateway host name was of the form [ipv6address]:ort, Remote Desktop couldn’t connect to the gateway.
• We fixed an issue where the bug check screen on high resolution displays wasn’t rendering the “Frowny” part of the frowny face.
• We fixed an issue where night light might not turn on/off automatically if the device was asleep at the time at which the night light state was scheduled to change.
• The night light on/off animation’s duration has been increased to 2 minutes – appreciate everyone who’s shared feedback for this feature, keep it coming!
• Microsoft Edge’s “Inspect Element” and “View Source” options should launch correctly to the DOM Explorer and Debugger, respectively.

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for Mobile

• We fixed the issue causing the Settings app to crash when navigating to Settings > Devices and you should be able to pair a Bluetooth device without any issue. The Bluetooth quick action from Action Center should also now work again. This issue could have also resulted in decreased Flashlight quick action reliability.
• Using Continuum to connect to a display wirelessly should also work as expected.
• We fixed an issue resulting in screen rotation sometimes unexpectedly not working on the last Insider flight.
• We fixed an issue where live tiles were not updating some apps such as Outlook Mail and Calendar.
• We fixed an issue where under Settings > Update & security > Phone update Insiders might see the text “Some Settings are managed by your organization” even though the phone wasn’t being managed by an organization.
• We fixed an issue from recent flights where you couldn’t paste or drag a folder from the PC to your phone
• We fixed an issue where tapping the link for a website with an associated app would crash Microsoft Edge and not open the associated app.
• We fixed an issue where downloads from Microsoft Edge directly to an SD card might unexpectedly use space on the local phone storage as well.
• We fixed an issue where the keyboard might dismiss after a second when opening a new tab in Microsoft Edge and quickly starting to type.
• We’ve fixed an issue that could result in your personal typing dictionary being unexpectedly deleted and having to train the keyboard from scratch.
• We fixed an issue where, during the download of a phone update, after disconnecting then reconnecting to Wi-Fi due to low reception you might get an error saying the download needs a better connection to continue, despite currently being connected to a good Wi-Fi connection.
• We’ve improved the video playback experience when using Continuum for phone wirelessly over Miracast.
• The icon for Windows Insider Program under Settings > Update & security should be no longer a square.

Known issues for PC

• A small percentage of PCs may fail to update to this build due to a corrupt registry key. If your PC appears to be at the spinning dots black screen during boot for an unusual amount of time while updating to this build, hard reboot your PC and then run the following commands in an admin Command Prompt:

• While we fixed the primary bug causing this issue, some Windows Insiders may still hit nonstop exceptions in the Spectrum.exe service causing their PC to lose audio, disk I/O usage to become very high, and apps like Microsoft Edge to become unresponsive when doing certain actions such as opening Settings. As a workaround to get out of this state, STOP the Spectrum.exe service and delete C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Spectrum\PersistedSpatialAnchors and reboot. For more details, see this forum post.
• [GAMING] Some popular games might minimize to the taskbar when launched. You can click on the game on the taskbar to get the game back.
• [GAMING] Certain hardware configurations may cause the broadcast live review window in the Game bar to flash Green while you are Broadcasting. This does not affect the quality of your broadcast and is only visible to the Broadcaster.
• Microsoft Edge F12 tools may intermittently crash, hang, and fail to accept inputs.
• The icon for Windows Insider Program under Settings > Update & security is shown as a square.
• Windows Hello face authentication might not work, showing a “Camera couldn’t turn on” error on the lock screen, on some Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book devices

Known issues for Mobile

• Speech packs will be unable to download on this build.
• Adding a new card / paying with an existing card will not work in Microsoft Wallet.

Today we are excited to be releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15046 for PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. As you can see, we have done quite a few experiments in the Creator’s Update so far to try out different colors and icons and we have loved co-creating the results you see today with you.

What’s new in Build 15046
Color of Cortana’s home on the taskbar: You had a LOT of opinions on this topic and we have been loving the enthusiastic feedback coming in! We finished our experiment with the color of Cortana’s home on the taskbar and for now, it’s back to the color it was before. Thanks for your feedback on this change.

Windows Defender Improvements: Windows Defender Security Center has added a notification icon to the notification area so you can see your protection status at a glance. You can also easily launch the app from the notification icon. Windows Defender Antivirus notifications also now lead to Windows Defender Security Center when clicked. Also: Windows Defender Security Center can now be launched directly from the Settings app and the “App and Browser” page is now functional.

Pick up where you left off in Cortana: We are experimenting with how we display what you can pick up where you left off across your devices in Cortana. Cortana now proactively shows you apps, files and websites from Microsoft Edge. Previously, this feature only displayed websites from Microsoft Edge in Action Center. Let us know what you think! (Available EN-US only.)

Improved translations: For Insiders who speak non-English languages, we wanted to let you know that we have heard your feedback on our translations and have been actively making improvements. With this build you should see improvements – particularly in OOBE and for some of our newer settings, but across the system as well. We encourage you to take a look around the system, and if you spot anything translation that doesn’t quite seem on point, please log feedback using the steps Link Removed.

Updated Gaming Settings icon: A lot of you sent in feedback on this. We listened and adjusted the Gaming icon in Settings to feel more inline with the other icons on the Settings home page.

Application Installation Control: You now have the option to control what type of apps are allowed to install on your PC. This setting is available by going to Settings > Apps > Apps & features. You can choose to only allow installation of Store apps, choose to be warned when installing a non-Store app but allow their installation, or choose to allow installation of apps from anywhere.

When you choose either of the Store options, you’ll see a warning when attempting to install a non-Store app. The warning will direct you to the Store where you can download an alternate app if available. In some cases, when there’s already an equivalent app in the Store, the warning will provide link to that app. This is an opt-in feature, and the default setting is to allow installation of apps from anywhere. (Note: This went live with last week’s build.)

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for PC

• We fixed the issue causing a small percentage of PCs to fail to update to recent builds due to a corrupt registry key.
• We fixed the issue causing Microsoft Edge and / or the taskbar to stop responding requiring you to open Task Manager to restart explorer.exe.
• Windows Hello face authentication should work again on Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book devices.
  After updating to a new build, we’ve updated the text on the welcome screen to say “Might take several minutes” instead of “Might take several minutes or so”. Thanks to everyone who sent feedback on how the original phrasing was overly casual.
• Cortana’s background is now black instead of the previous grey.
• We fixed an issue in tablet mode where, with certain DPI levels, Start tiles would render on first launch of Start after entering tablet mode but on subsequent launches would appear blank.
• We fixed an issue resulting in Shift+F10 not working to open context menus for websites displayed in Microsoft Edge.
• We fixed an issue in Microsoft Edge where using the left/right arrow keys might sometimes unexpectedly result in forward/back page navigation.
• We fixed an issue resulting in copy failing the first time you tried to copy a password from the LastPass extension in Microsoft Edge to a website.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the Microsoft Edge app window being unexpectedly slow to follow your mouse when dragging it around the screen.
• We fixed an issue in Microsoft Edge where, after opening a link in a new tab, tooltips might start drawing behind the Microsoft Edge window instead of on top.
• We fixed an issue that could result in input no longer working in a particular Microsoft Edge tab after tearing it away to make a new window.
• We fixed an issue resulting in Microsoft Edge launching on pen click when that was the configured pen click action in Pen and Windows Ink Settings.
• We fixed an issue resulting in Microsoft Edge sometimes unexpectedly crashing when deleting characters typed using an IME (for example, the Japanese IME, or the MS Pinyin IME).
• We fixed an issue resulting in drag and drop (for example, into an Outlook 2016 email) sometimes not working on PCs with multiple monitors where the two monitors have different DPIs.
• We fixed an issue where the icon for Windows Insider Program under Settings > Update & security was shown as a square.
• We fixed an issue where all windows on a PC using multiple monitors would move to the primary monitor after remoting into the machine from a single monitor remote desktop session.
• We fixed an issue resulting in Storage Sense in Storage Settings failing to purge the recycle bin with certain machine configurations.
• We fixed an issue resulting in an unexpected and unnamed 0 byte item listed under Manage Optional Features in Settings.
• We fixed an issue where PC Reset wasn’t working in the last flight, the PC would boot to a blue screen saying that there was a problem resetting your PC.
• We fixed an issue resulting in being unable to mount an ISO with the sparse file attribute set.
• We fixed an issue where handwriting text candidates might stop working properly after using strikethrough to erase words written in the handwriting panel.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the Korean IME’s composition indicator unexpectedly not appearing when typing jamo into certain text fields.
• We fixed an issue where app updates in the Store may fail with error code 0x8020002B.
• We fixed an alignment issue with entries on the Sign-in options Settings page.
• We fixed the issue causing the Microsoft Edge F12 Developer Tools to intermittently crash, hang, and fail to accept inputs. If you continue to have issues with the F12 Developer Tools, send us feedback!
• We fixed the issue where pressing F12 in Microsoft Edge multiple times invokes multiple F12 windows (all but one are non-functional).
• We fixed the issue where toggling F12 between the docked and undocked state repeatedly can crash Microsoft Edge.

• Some PCs will fail to update to this build at 71% and roll-back to the previous build. See this forum post for details.

2. Allow your PC to successfully roll back to your previous OS build
3. Log into your PC and open a Command Prompt (Admin) window:
   Note: You MUST do this in Command Prompt, NOT PowerShell!
   - Click Start
   - Type Command Prompt
   - Right-click Command Prompt (desktop app) in the results list
   - Select Run as Administrator
   - Click Yes to confirm
4. One line at a time, paste these commands into the command prompt window.
   Press enter after each line:

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for PC

• We fixed the issue where some UWP apps may unexpectedly appear with their app package name in the title bar as opposed to the app name. A lot of you sent us screenshots of this in the Feedback Hub and we were able to debug the issue quickly. Thank you!.
• [GAMING] We fixed the issue where some popular games might minimize to the taskbar when launched.
• We fixed an issue where copy and pasting URLs to and from the Microsoft Edge address bar with spaces wouldn’t convert spaces into %20.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the LastPass extension for Microsoft Edge sometimes unexpectedly failing to show its autofill buttons on recent builds.
• We fixed a recent issue resulting in unexpected characters sometimes being pasted when pasting into certain websites using Microsoft Edge.
• We fixed an issue where using the mouse wheel to scrolling in Microsoft Edge might not work if the window was made smaller or moved to a different monitor.
• We adjusted Microsoft Edge’s “Find on page” logic so that now as you go through the results the webpage should scroll so the found text is more central on the page.
• We fixed an issue for those flighting recent builds on laptops, changing brightness would stop working after the first time the laptop lid had been closed and reopened when the “Lid Close Action” power policy was set to “Do nothing”.
• We fixed an issue that could result in not being able to type into search boxes in certain UWP apps.
• We fixed an issue resulting in clicked Cortana search results not opening when typing using the MS Pinyin IME.
• We fixed an issue where cross device notifications from a particular phone might unexpectedly appear in two separate groups in the Action Center.
• We fixed an issue resulting in emails from Outlook 2016 not opening in the foreground after tapping on the corresponding notification.

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for Mobile

• Adding a new card / paying with an existing card works again Microsoft Wallet.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the play/pause buttons when watching videos in Microsoft Edge taking two taps to work immediately after opening the video full screen.
• We fixed an issue where the Data Usage page in Settings might be unexpectedly missing info about cellular data usage.
• We fixed an issue resulting in certain characters on the Polish keyboard not working in Continuum when typing in the Microsoft Edge address bar.
• Cortana’s background is now black rather than the previous dark grey.
• We fixed an issue where after some time the -word option might stop appear in the candidate pane for words added to the typing dictionary.
• We fixed an issue resulting in task switcher being unexpectedly slower to launch in recent flights.
• We fixed an issue resulting in a flicker on certain devices, such as the Lumia 950, when interacting with the Maps app after rotating the phone into landscape mode.
• We fixed an issue where dragging the position indicator in the video progress slider in Microsoft Edge would back to 0 upon release.
• We fixed an issue resulting in notifications from SIM 2 on dual SIM phones not appearing in the Action Center.

Known issues for PC

• If you have additional language packs installed, this build will fail to download and install. You can follow the steps in this forum post to get unblocked.

• Issues may occur when exploring pages using the F12 Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge with cross-origin iframes (e.g. the DOM explorer shows only the iframe DOM, the Console frame selector doesn’t list the iframes, etc.).
• Pressing F12 to open the Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge while F12 is open and focused may not return focus to the tab F12 is opened against, and vice-versa.
• Sometimes launching F12 will launch the F12 window behind the active Microsoft Edge window.
• Insiders with multiple monitors may encounter an issue where one of the monitors stops rendering (with the exception of the mouse). While rebooting will fix it, you can also resolve the issue via Settings > System > Display under the Multiple displays section, set it to only use the monitor that’s functional, then set it back to “Extend these displays” and the issue should be resolved.

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for PC

• If you have Symantec/Norton anti-virus software installed on your PC, you should no longer get an 0x80070228 error when attempting to download this build. Symantec released updated anti-virus definitions last week that fixes this issue. Please make sure your Symantec/Norton anti-virus software has the most up-to-date anti-virus definitions BEFORE taking trying to install today’s build.
• PCs should no longer fail to update to this build at 71% and roll-back to the previous build.
• If you have additional language packs installed, this build should install just fine.
• We fixed an issue where sometimes the context menu when right-clicking a misspelled word in Microsoft Edge would launch in an unexpected place or under the Edge window.
• When using “Cast media to device” in Microsoft Edge, it will now open the Connect pane (also seen when using Win + K).
• We fixed an issue from recent builds where Microsoft Edge might immediately show a “Not responding” state after opening a link or pasting a URL in a new tab.
• We fixed an issue where sometimes the tab mouse-over description tooltips in Microsoft Edge would stay on the screen even after closing the relevant tab.
• We fixed an issue that could result in Microsoft Edge unexpectedly attempting to download certain webpages rather than navigating to them when the Link Removed was enabled.
• We fixed an issue where it wasn’t possible to use touch to set focus to text boxes in Microsoft Edge’s Web Notes in order to enter text.
• We fixed an issue where, after using Ctrl + W to close multiple tabs in Microsoft Edge at once, the active tab might lose focus and keyboard shortcuts would stop working until moving focus away from and back to the tab.
• We fixed an issue recently where if you have selected text in Microsoft Edge, moved focus away from the window, then returned focus using Alt + Tab or the mouse, trying to copy the selected text wouldn’t work. We also fixed a recent issue where if you used Ctrl + C to copy selected text in the Edge URL bar, and then Ctrl + Shift + P to open a new InPrivate window or Ctrl + N to open a new regular window, using Ctrl + V to paste the copied URL into the new window’s address bar wouldn’t work.
• We fixed an issue for Insiders where, if focus was set to a Microsoft Edge window, touchpad and keyboard input might periodically stop working for a few seconds at a time.
• We fixed an issue for Insiders with multiple monitors resulting in flickering and rendering issues when the Hub button in Microsoft Edge was pressed.
• We fixed an issue where Insiders with multiple monitors might find one of their monitors would stop rendering (with the exception of the mouse).
• We fixed an issue resulting in Microsoft Groove sometimes no longer rendering correctly after snapping the app to one side of the monitor and changing the size.
• We fixed an issue from recent flights resulting in the taskbar getting into a state where many of the thumbnail previews would be unexpectedly blank.
• We fixed an issue for certain USB-powered monitors where the taskbar clock would sometimes stop rendering for a few minutes (seemingly stuck, but would refresh on mouse-over).
• We fixed an issue where the battery flyout would crash the second time the battery icon in the taskbar was clicked.
• We fixed an issue from recent flights resulting in OneDrive.exe unexpectedly sometimes running with a high percent CPU for a long time.
• We fixed an issue that Insiders may have experienced resulting in paste not working if the copied content was from a UWP app that was currently suspended.
• We fixed an issue where certain devices were unexpectedly not being discovered when searching for available pairings to add in Bluetooth & Other Devices Settings.
• We fixed an issue where for those with certain printers, clicking on “More settings” in the UWP app print dialog would result in the print dialog hanging.
• We fixed a recent issue where many of the advanced settings dialogs, such as the one seen when searching for driver updates, were grey or had grey components instead of the expected white.
• We fixed an issue resulting in Windows Defender Antivirus notifications not opening Windows Defender Security Center when clicked.
• We fixed an issue resulting in a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error dialog citing a TabTip.exe runtime error unexpectedly appearing on the login screen for some Insiders.

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for Mobile

• We fixed an issue from recent flights where the volume control might stop working when listening to music in Groove after an endpoint change (for example plugging in headphones).
• We’ve improved speech reliability by fixing a bug where Cortana was unexpectedly failing with a connection error.
• We fixed an issue where multi-turn Cortana speech interactions weren’t working (for example, when creating a reminder in multiple parts, as opposed to doing it in a single sentence).

Known issues for PC

• If you did the workaround to fix the corrupted registry key to get Build 15042, Link Removed
• Some PCs may fail to update to Build 15002 and higher due to SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE error.
• Some apps and games may crash due to a misconfiguration of advertising ID that happened in a prior build. Specifically, this issue affects new user accounts that were created on Build 15031. The misconfiguration can continue to persist after upgrading to later builds. The ACL on the registry key incorrectly denies access to the user and you can delete the following registry key to get out of this state:
  HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AdvertisingInfo
  

• There is a bug in this build that can cause a number of inbox apps to fail to launch (such as Store). If you run into this, you can reset the app by going to Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Store > Advanced Options and pressing the “Reset” button. which should allow you to use the app as normal. However, please note this issue also prevents you from taking any app updates from the Store. A workaround for this is to uninstall the app and reinstall the app from the Store. This issue will be fixed in the next build.
• There is a bug where if you need to restart your PC due to a pending update like with the latest Surface firmware updates, the restart reminder dialog doesn’t pop up. You should check Settings > Update & security > Windows Update to see if a restart is required.
• In the last build, we noted that we had fixed the issue where some UWP apps may unexpectedly appear with their app package name in the title bar as opposed to the app name. However, Insiders reported back that they were still seeing apps showing their app package name in the title bar. Thanks to Insiders who gave us this feedback, a second bug was discovered causing the same issue.
• [GAMING] Certain hardware configurations may cause the broadcast live review window in the Game bar to flash Green while you are Broadcasting. This does not affect the quality of your broadcast and is only visible to the Broadcaster.
• Issues may occur when exploring pages using the F12 Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge with cross-origin iframes (e.g. the DOM explorer shows only the iframe DOM, the Console frame selector doesn’t list the iframes, etc.).
• Pressing F12 to open the Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge while F12 is open and focused may not return focus to the tab F12 is opened against, and vice-versa.
• Surface Pro 3 devices will fail to update to new builds if a SD memory card is inserted. To take a new build, remove the SD memory card. You can re-insert the SD memory card after the latest build is installed.

Known issues for Mobile

• We have discovered a bug that causes background tasks to not run in the background like they should such as OneDrive’s camera roll sync feature. Please double check your photos have synced to OneDrive on the latest builds. We’ve got a fix for this issue coming in an upcoming build where background tasks will run again and your camera roll will sync to OneDrive as expected.
• If your device experiences an unexpected reboot, in some cases you may lose your call, text, and email history may be lost. We’re actively investigating this issue. If you believe you’ve hit this, please up-vote this feedback item In Feedback Hub.
• There is a bug in this build that can cause a number of inbox apps to fail to launch (such as Store). There is no workaround to reset the Store unfortunately. This issue also prevents you from taking any app updates from the Store if the Store works for you. A workaround for this is to uninstall the app and reinstall the app from the Store. This issue will be fixed in the next build. Speech packs may be unable to download on this build.
• Some users are reporting that pages are constantly reloading or refreshing, especially while they are in the middle of scrolling them in Microsoft Edge. We’re investigating.

• We fixed the issue causing a number of inbox apps to fail to launch (such as Store) and preventing any app updates from the Store from installing.
• We fixed another issue causing some UWP apps would unexpectedly appear with their app package name in the title bar as opposed to the app name.
• We fixed an issue where going to fullscreen or maximizing Microsoft Edge when Microsoft Edge’s window was snapped to a size smaller than half the screen would trigger back navigation.
• We fixed an issue resulting in the mouse pointer staying visible when watching a video fullscreen in Microsoft Edge.
• We fixed a crash Insiders may have sometimes experienced in recent builds when accessing the Wi-Fi Settings page via Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
• We fixed an issue where the desktop session sometimes crashed for Insiders after locking if the PC was set to lock on sleep. After this happened, trying to unlock the computer could result either seeing an unexpected “Can’t log in: The number of connections to this computer is limited and all connections are in use” error on the login screen, or a successful login only to find all open apps had been closed.
• We fixed an issue where renaming an encrypted PDF would reset the default PDF reader if it was not currently set to Microsoft Edge.
• We have improved video playback quality on the target device when using Miracast to wirelessly connect from a high DPI PC to another high DPI device.

Known issues for PC

Windows Insiders, we LOVE to hear your stories and it’s always such a pleasure to hear what you’re using your technical superpowers for in your communities. Today, we’d like you to meet Mauricio Uribe, one of our Insiders hailing from Bogota, Colombia who teaches young people to code in his spare time. We sat down with Mauricio during a Windows Insider Meet Up in February in Colombia. His passion for technology, his drive to help local children learn to code, and his infectious energy for life make Mauricio both a great conversationalist and an influential Windows Insider.

As with many of our Insiders, Mauricio grew up with a love for Windows and technology and has remained an active supporter over the years. “I have been passionate about computers since I was 13 and technology became my main hobby. I’ve seen the birth and transformation of Microsoft Windows since its first version, and was actually an organizer for the official launch of Windows 95 in Colombia.”

One of the many things we loved about Mauricio were his insights into how technology has made a difference in the world. “I love evolution. I love computers. I love that technology is changing the lives of all people.” He spoke of Microsoft’s renewed focus in the developer space, buoyed by the announcements of BASH coming to Windows and the future of further cross platform and system partnerships. “I love the way Windows is focusing its vision right now.”

On top of his day job, Mauricio helps children in his city, like his seven-year-old daughter, follow their dreams of becoming the future leaders in technology and coding. “I am currently the CEO of a private mining company, but despite not being a systems engineer I taught Introduction to Computers at the Universidad Javeriana where I instructed students on the basics of computing like DOS, Lotus, and WordPerfect.” Mauricio continues to learn, grow, and share with his community so that others around him can kick-start their own technology careers.

“My main interest in learning to code is that I want to teach my daughter. And as soon as I finish my coding course and get my diploma, I plan to develop the same course I’m taking but in Spanish for kids. I want to make it available to the public so people can see that it’s possible to learn to code in a fun way.”

Mauricio proudly identifies as a Windows Insider and we are lucky to call him a champion. Between his work advocating for the program in Bogota and his help in getting our Insiders motivated, Mauricio’s leadership is creating a vibrant Insider community in Colombia.

Today we are excited to be releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15060 for PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

NOTE: The builds for Brazil (PT-BR) and Polish (PL-PL) are not yet available so Insiders will see the message “An update is being prepared for your device, but it’s not quite ready yet. We will keep trying or you can try again now.” when checking for updates. Windows 10 Home for 32-bit is also not yet available.

Other changes, improvements, and fixes for PC

• We fixed an issue resulting in the Settings icon appearing plating in the taskbar. This issue also resulted in another issue now fixed, where if Settings had been pinned to Start, the tile would become greyed out after the first time it was clicked. Thank you all for your feedback on this.
• We fixed an issue resulting in 3rd party IMEs not showing up in Settings after being installed.
• We fixed an issue in Microsoft Edge where quickly typing and deleting characters into a website’s search box while using the MS Pinyin IME might result in the IME becoming stuck and the website showing “Not responding”.
• Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 devices should no longer fail to update to new builds if a SD memory card is inserted if you have the latest Surface drivers and firmware installed.
• We fixed an issue where taskhost.exe might crash after pressing Tab while quickly typing in UWP app sign in fields, resulting in not being able to type for a few seconds.
• We fixed an issue for Insiders where, after a crash, Microsoft Edge might fail to launch again for a few minutes because previous instances were still suspended in the background.
• We fixed the issues occurring when exploring pages using the F12 Developer Tools in Microsoft Edge with cross-origin iframes (e.g. the DOM explorer shows only the iframe DOM, the Console frame selector doesn’t list the iframes, etc.).

Known issues for PC

• You will be unable to download new (additional) language packs on this build. Currently installed language packs will not be impacted.

• We fixed an issue where in recent flights, some Direct3D 9 games might periodically fail to launch. To work around this, it was necessary that your default display resolution be the recommended setting for your system. You can now return your display configuration to your preferred settings.
