Microsoft has recently released Windows 11 Build 26100.4762 (KB5062660) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel, marking a significant update for Windows 11 version 24H2. Some features in this update are being introduced gradually and may not be immediately available to all users. These include:
  • Recall: In the European Economic Area (EEA), Recall now supports exporting snapshots to share with trusted third-party apps and websites. Upon enabling snapshot saving for the first time, a unique Recall export code is generated, which is essential for decrypting exported snapshots. This code is displayed only once during the initial setup and is not stored or recoverable by Microsoft. To export snapshots, navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & Snapshots > Advanced Settings, authenticate with Windows Hello, and choose the desired export option. Third-party apps can access these snapshots only with the export code and folder path.

Normal Rollout Features

The update also includes features and improvements that are being rolled out more broadly:
  • Copilot: Enhancements have been made to the Copilot key's reliability, addressing issues that previously prevented users from restarting Copilot after using the key.
  • Performance: Improvements have been implemented to maintain the efficiency of Storage Spaces Direct (S2D). This addresses scenarios where complex software-defined data center (SDDC) workflows could cause the system to become unresponsive.
  • Storage Optimization: The update resolves an issue that prevented unused language packs and Feature on Demand packages from being fully removed, leading to unnecessary storage use and longer Windows Update installation times.
  • Windows Hello: An issue preventing the automatic renewal of expiring certificates in Windows Hello for Business has been addressed, ensuring continuous authentication capabilities.
  • Windows Search: The reliability of Windows Search has been enhanced, resolving issues where search responded very slowly or prevented users from typing in the search bar in some cases.

AI Component Updates

This release updates several AI components to version 1.2506.707.0, including Image Search, Content Extraction, and Semantic Analysis, reflecting Microsoft's ongoing commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities into Windows 11.

Known Issues

A known issue in this update involves reports of blurry or unclear Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) text when displayed at 96 DPI (100% scaling) in Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. This issue stems from the March 2025 Preview Update, which introduced Noto fonts for CJK languages as fallbacks to improve text rendering. The limited pixel density at 96 DPI can reduce the clarity and alignment of CJK characters. As a temporary workaround, increasing the display scaling to 125% or 150% can improve text clarity. Microsoft is investigating this issue and will provide more information when available.

Critical Analysis

The introduction of features like Recall and enhancements to Copilot signify Microsoft's dedication to improving user productivity and system reliability. However, the gradual rollout of certain features may lead to inconsistencies in user experience, as not all users will have immediate access to the new functionalities. Additionally, the known issue with CJK text rendering highlights the challenges in implementing new font systems across diverse languages and display settings. Users who rely on these languages may experience reduced readability, which could impact their workflow.
In conclusion, Windows 11 Build 26100.4762 brings valuable enhancements and fixes, but users should be aware of the gradual rollout of features and the existing known issues. Staying informed through official Microsoft channels and providing feedback can help mitigate potential disruptions and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the operating system.
