'Windows 11 KB5060826 Update Enhances Control, Performance, and Security'
Microsoft has released the KB5060826 update for Windows 11, encompassing OS Builds 22621.5549 and 22631.5549, as a preview on June 26, 2025. This update introduces several enhancements and addresses various issues to improve system performance and user experience.
Key Highlights of KB5060826:
  • App Defaults Enhancements: In the European Economic Area (EEA), users now have expanded control over default applications. The "Set default" button in Settings > Apps > Default apps allows for:
  • Assigning additional file and link types to the new default browser, provided it registers them.
  • Optionally pinning the new default browser to the Taskbar and Start menu, with the ability to opt out by clearing the respective checkboxes.
  • A dedicated one-click button for browsers to set them as the default for .pdf files, if supported.
  • Windows Share Improvements: When sharing links or web content via the Windows share window, users will now see a visual preview of the content, enhancing the sharing experience.
Resolved Issues:
  • Audit Logs: Addressed an issue where excessive security event logs filled up the system drive, preventing user sign-ins.
  • Authentication: Fixed a problem where domain-joined machines running Windows 11 22H2 or 23H2 couldn't update their account passwords on Windows Server 2025 domain controllers, leading to trust relationship issues.
  • Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP): Resolved an issue that prevented RDP connections until the device was restarted.
  • Network File Sharing: Fixed a problem where workstations and servers might stop responding when connecting to resources on Server Message Block (SMB) shares.
  • Performance: Addressed an issue that prevented the complete removal of unused language packs and Feature on Demand packages, leading to unnecessary storage use and longer Windows Update installation times.
  • Windows Hello: Fixed an issue that prevented the automatic renewal of expiring certificates in Windows Hello for Business.
  • Windows Search: Improved Windows Search responsiveness, reducing the time it takes for the Search Box to load before use.
These updates reflect Microsoft's ongoing commitment to enhancing user control, system reliability, and overall performance in Windows 11.
