Microsoft is introducing a new feature in Windows 11 called "Adaptive Energy Saver," designed to enhance battery life by dynamically adjusting power settings based on system usage rather than solely on battery levels. This feature is currently being tested with Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel and is expected to roll out more broadly in the near future.
Unlike traditional energy-saving modes that activate when the battery reaches a low percentage, Adaptive Energy Saver operates by monitoring the device's workload. When the system is performing light tasks, such as web browsing or email, the feature automatically enables energy-saving measures without reducing screen brightness, thereby maintaining user experience. Conversely, during intensive tasks like gaming or video editing, it disables itself to ensure optimal performance. (windowscentral.com)
This opt-in feature can be toggled on or off via Quick Settings in the system tray or configured to activate automatically at a specified battery percentage. Notably, Adaptive Energy Saver is available only for battery-powered devices and does not extend to desktop PCs. (learn.microsoft.com)
The introduction of Adaptive Energy Saver aligns with Microsoft's broader sustainability initiatives, aiming to reduce energy consumption and extend device battery life without compromising performance. By intelligently managing power usage based on real-time system demands, this feature offers a more efficient and user-friendly approach to energy conservation. (blogs.windows.com)
As this feature is still in the testing phase, its final implementation may vary based on user feedback and further development. Users interested in trying Adaptive Energy Saver can do so by joining the Windows Insider Program and accessing the latest builds in the Canary Channel.
