hello!

I recently installed Windows 7 on a Compaq Presario CQ40-310AU Notebook. All went well, installing basic drivers, etc (I used the Vista drivers) Later I installed the Help File installer for the Notebook but somehow it wasn't compatible with the windows 7 help.

My problem is when I open and search the windows help file. I get the wrong information displayed.

Is there a way to restore the help file without reinstalling windows?

Any help will be appreciated thanks.

Fixing Windows Help File Issues in Windows 7:

  1. Update Help Files: Windows 7 has a built-in troubleshooter that can fix common problems with the Help and Support Center. You can access this troubleshooter by going to Start > Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Fix problems with Windows Update.
  2. Check System Files: You can use the System File Checker tool to scan and repair corrupted system files, which may include the Help File. Open a command prompt with administrative privileges and run the following command:
    Code:
     sfc /scannow
  3. Reinstall Help Files: You can try to reinstall the Help Files manually. Here's how you can do it:
    • Go to the "C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr" directory.
    • Look for the "HCReset.exe" file and run it. This executable resets the Help Center settings.
    • After running this, restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
[]Register Help Files: Sometimes, re-registering the Help files can resolve issues. To register the Help files, run the following commands in an elevated command prompt:
    Code:
     regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 vbscript.dll
    [
]Create a New User Account: Sometimes, creating a new user account and checking the Help File from there can help isolate the issue to a specific user profile.

    Additional Tips:

    • Make sure your Windows 7 installation is up to date with the latest updates from Windows Update.
    • Check for any specific drivers or software updates that may address compatibility issues with Windows 7.
Try these steps to see if they help in resolving the incorrect information displayed in the Windows Help File. If the issue persists, or if you need further assistance, feel free to ask!
