I noticed this problem a couple weeks ago when I installed the recent update for windows. All pre installed apps on my start screen had an "X" in the corner of the tile. None of them would open. The only thing that would happen would be I was directed to the desktop and the app would be running in the task bar. By running the app trouble shooter I was able to get the app store working but everything else continues not to work. Settings, maps, weather, mail, etc.

Solution
It seems like you are facing issues with Windows Store apps not functioning properly after a recent Windows update. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps for Windows Store Apps:

  1. Run Windows Store App Troubleshooter:
    • You've already run the app troubleshooter, which is a good step. Ensure that all issues detected by the troubleshooter are addressed. If it didn't resolve all the problems, you can try running it again or move on to the next steps.
    []Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, new updates include fixes for issues with Windows Store apps.

    ]Reset Windows Store Cache:
    • Resetting the Windows Store cache can sometimes resolve issues with apps. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: wsreset.exe. This will clear the cache and may help fix the problem.
    []Try App Specific Troubleshooting:
    • For individual apps like Mail, Maps, etc., you can try resetting them. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find the problematic app, and select Advanced options. From there, you can reset the app. This action won't delete your data but will reset the app settings.
    [
    ]Check App Permissions:
    • Ensure that the Windows Store and individual apps have necessary permissions to run. Go to Settings > Privacy and check app permissions for various features like location, camera, microphone, etc.
    []Re-register Windows Store Apps:
    • In an elevated PowerShell window, run the command: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}. This command re-registers all Windows Store apps.
    [
    ]Create a New User Account:
    • Sometimes, issues are user-specific. Create a new user account and see if the Windows Store apps work correctly in the new account. This can help identify if the problem is account-related.
  2. Check for Corrupted System Files:
    • Run the System File Checker tool by opening Command Prompt as an administrator and running the command: sfc /scannow. This will scan and repair any corrupt system files that might be causing issues. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the problems with Windows Store apps not opening after the Windows update. If the issue persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
