Microsoft have released an update to address certain issues arising using Windows 8.1 and peripherals namely:
When you play certain desktop games in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2, the mouse pointer may freeze or stutter. (Had this issue myself)
Mouse input in some games is incorrectly scaled on high-DPI devices.
Button clicks for internal touchpads and pointing sticks are not responsive while or shortly after the keyboard is used.
