Hi guys!

I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue i'm having at work. The problem that keeps occurring is that, they log on, then it automatically logs them off. I've seen other people have had this problem and it has been down to a reg key, but i've checked the registry and all seems fine. I've checked the logs, and there is nothing in there to suggest why it logs them off.

It is only happening to two people in the entire school. This issue eventually let's them log on after 6-7 goes on average. I'm thinking of just deleting there accounts and re-imaging the machines, but I would rather find out what is causing the problem, so I can fix it in the future, if it ever occurs again.

All the computers run the same, Windows XP Professional, service pack 3. I have my suspicions that it could be the security software on the machines. One is called eSafe and one is called Ranger, both able to not let a user log on if something isn't right, but I have reinstalled all the software. Any ideas???

Thanks

Adam

P.s if I have left anything out important let me know.

Adam, It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation, but let's work through this together to find a solution for the login issue you're experiencing with these two users on Windows XP Professional SP3. Here are some steps and considerations you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this problem: 1. Check Group Policies: - Verify if there are any group policies that might be affecting these users' logins. Group policies can restrict user access and cause login issues. 2. Check Antivirus or Security Software: - Since you suspect security software like eSafe and Ranger may be causing the problem, ensure that these programs are not blocking user logins. Check the logs or settings within these programs for any...

Check Antivirus or Security Software: - Since you suspect security software like eSafe and Ranger may be causing the problem, ensure that these programs are not blocking user logins. Check the logs or settings within these programs for any relevant information. 3. Check Event Viewer Logs: - Look for any specific error messages or warnings in the Event Viewer logs that coincide with the login attempts. This can provide more insight into what might be causing the issue. 4. Verify User Permissions: - Ensure that the affected users have the necessary permissions to log in and access the system. Check both local and domain user permissions if applicable. 5. Run System File Checker: - Use the System File Checker tool to check for and repair corrupted system files that could be causing login problems. 6. Check for Malware or Viruses: - Perform a thorough scan for malware or viruses on the affected computers. Malicious software can sometimes interfere with user logins. 7. Consider User Profile Corruption: - User profile corruption can also lead to login issues. Try creating a new user account for the affected users and see if they can log in successfully with the new account. 8. Update Drivers and Windows Updates: - Ensure that all system drivers are up to date and install any pending Windows updates that might contain fixes for such issues. If none of these steps resolve the problem, a re-imaging of the machines might be necessary as a last resort to ensure a clean system without any lingering issues. Feel free to provide more details or updates on the situation, and we can continue to troubleshoot until we find a resolution.
