I got a Canon Printer which have no Vista support from official site which I wish to use it in W7. I know it's an old AIO printer but sometimes the scanner comes in handy, but problem is I only get hold of XP driver for it. I tried installed the Virtual XP mode beta and I try to setup my printer, but my driver setup won't go through, it said it can't detect my printer.

So just want to ask is it actually possible to install XP-only device in Virtual XP mode so I can use the device in W7 environment ? I didn't use much of Virtual PC so I am not quite sure. Thanks for any help ! :)

Installing an XP-only device in Virtual XP mode on Windows 7 to use an older Canon printer that lacks official Vista support is a feasible approach. Here's how you can attempt to make this work: 1. Virtual XP Mode: - Ensure that your Windows 7 edition supports Windows XP Mode. Not all editions have this feature. - Download and install Windows XP Mode: This includes Virtual PC and a fully licensed copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 3. 2. Setting Up the Virtual XP Environment: - After installing the Virtual XP environment, install the XP driver for your Canon printer within the virtual machine. - Connect your Canon printer to the virtual machine: To make the virtual machine recognize your printer, you need to configure the...

Configuring USB Devices in Virtual PC: - In the Settings of your Virtual XP, go to USB. - Add a USB device (your Canon printer) to the list of devices that can be connected. - Once added, try connecting the printer to the virtual machine. 4. Installing the Printer Driver: - Install the XP driver for your Canon printer within the Virtual XP environment. - Follow the installation process and make sure the driver installation completes successfully. 5. Testing: - Once the driver is installed, try to print a test page from within the Virtual XP environment to confirm that the printer is working correctly. 6. Using the Printer from Windows 7: - Once the printer is set up and working in the Virtual XP environment, you should be able to access it from your Windows 7 system. - Share the printer from Virtual XP so that it can be accessed on your Windows 7 host. By following these steps, you should be able to use your XP-only Canon printer within the Virtual XP mode on Windows 7. This method replicates an XP environment to allow for the installation and usage of XP-only devices on a newer operating system.
