Windows 8 Fallout 3 GOTY

I have been trying to play Fallout 3 GOTY for severl days. The game has installed (via Steam) but whenever I click on Play nothing happens. I have changed the properties to Run as Administrator and tried the Compatability as Windows XP, Vista and 7. Nowall I get is "The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 3 goty\xlive.ddl. This despite the dll file being present in the folder mentioned and the Windows System 32 folder. Can anyone help please?

Try installing the latest version of this: http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-gb/Live/Pages/livejoin.aspx no need to create an account or anything just install it. I tried to play it on win 8 a while ago but as the DLC's wouldn't install I didn't bother playing it. Let me know if you get any further..

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I tried installing the application but am still getting the same error message and GFW won't run either!

been doing some reading up via google. See this help page via the fallout forums as some changes are needed for it to run on win 8:

Managed to get my copy running on 8.1 so it should run fine on win 8. Use the link I posted above on how.
