Check the drivers installed are compatible with Windows 7; just because they run doesn't make them fully compatible. Otherwise, check to see whether you've made any changes recently to other hardware or software, that could be clashing with the display, and (if you have no other joy) try installing a previous OS to make sure it's not system-related.

I purchased and recieved the laptop direct from Dell in August. It came with Vista and was elgible for a free upgrade to Windows 7. I did the upgrade option from the disk around two weeks ago and now I can't even get far enough in the boot to run any diagnostics or to do a clean reinstall of Windows 7.

You can't get to the F8 boot to safe mode option?

Can you boot to the Win 7 install DVD and select repair?

If you can do either, try setting the system to basic video during start. Maybe you can get into a normal system so you can change the video driver.

I managed to run diagnostics and got an error code saying that my hard drive was failing and needs to be replaced. So I guess this one is solved.
