Can you go into the control panel and Programs and Featues-View installed updates and remove it there, if it is listed. Maybe that will reset or at least get you back to a standard situation.

Update KB981852 is not listed in the control panel and Programs and Featues-View.

The update is a Security update for Win 7. If it will not install correctly, I would hide it so it won't keep trying. There have been updates after that one.

If you decide to try to install it later, you can unhide it and try again. Make sure you only install it by itself.
