I have gone to the Control Panel and selected Farmville and selected Uninstall, but no matter how many times I try, it will not initiate the unistall. How can I get this off of my computer?

If you use a cleanup utility you might have wiped out the uninstall reg keys in which case it doesn't know how to remove it.
You can install it again then uninstall which will put anything necessary to remove it.
