I re-installed windows 7 on my laptop. Now when I insert my SD card to download pictures it does nothing. Is there any way to get this back. I prefer this method over using the wire from camera to the computer.

It's likely you are missing the driver for media card reader. Go to the laptop manufacturer site and download and install the appropriate driver
