According to an article over at Neowin.net the next big update for Windows 8 is code named Windows Blue and it's scheduled for some time in 2013. Essentially this is a service pack with a difference, changes to the UI including a more flexible tile size and a broader range of colour as well as background customisation options. This will also herald the start of yearly updates or upgrades. Initially free but after that pricing will come in.

I don't think the public is going to like paying for yearly updates. Before they start pushing developers for Apps for Blue should fix the mess they already have. Looks like a good way to encourage people and business to stick with Windows 7.
