In Windows 7, I had my computer set so that before it would delete something it would verify that I really wanted to delete this file. How do I set it to do that in Windows 8?

Hi,

if you right click on the Recycle Bin, found either on the desktop or via File explorer, choose properties and then look for a checkbox that if checked will bring back the 'Do you want to delete' dialogue. See the screenshot:
