New desktop users can make plenty of mistakes (as can anyone). But knowing which mistakes to avoid, from the start, helps prevent a LOT of frustration. I’ve handled the topic of mistakes new Linux admins make, but never those of desktop users. Here are some of the most common Linux desktop...

In my last post I showed off the Windows Movie Maker 2.6 Enhancement Pack 2010. It gave users more flexibility went it came to creating custom-made videos. Although video is an important aspect in creating short films and movies, the other is the sound that goes into it. Without music or the...
Just download Windows 7 Pro 64bit edition. I extracted the contents of the download to a DVD but can't get it to bootup. It runs from windows just fine but won't bootup from disc. Unfortunately the file I download was a .exe extractor and not an iso. How can I make the disc bootable?
When I use wmp or media center, the video is shown slightly earlier than the sound. Probably around half a second.
Its nothing wrong with the files, they play perfectly in vlc. This goes for all .avi files, whether its backed up movies, or tv shows.
You might say that this is not really a...

Microsoft’s plan to “sandbox†Office documents in the next version of its application suite is an admission that the company cannot keep hackers from exploiting file format bugs, a security analyst said on July 23. “What’s been happening is that Office has lots of...

Is there any way I can open Nikon's .NEF files in Win 7 64-bit?
I searched the web and found a codec, but it was for 32-Bit, but I installed it any ways to try, and it did not work.
I also found a codec that works for 64-bit, but it costs money, and I don't want to pay for it.
Any ideas?

So, I'm thinking, if Microsoft has the zune media player software, why are they still working on Windows Media Player? Zune is a direct competitor, and has a better UI compared to WMP. It also is compatible with formats people use right out of the box, like .mp4 and .m4a files, as well as...
Hi all, I recently bought a new laptop with Windows Vista Premium. Every time I play an mp3 via Windows Media Player, it skips for a few seconds towards the end of the song. Every single time. Every single mp3 file I have on my computer. I did not have this problem with Windows XP. Any ideas?
