Mozilla and Google say they are building Windows 8-enabled browsers, and Opera Software is looking into the possibility, too. Still, it may not be as easy as with previous Windows operating systems thanks to Microsoft's new "Metro" user interface.

Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund has a new note out in which he describes Windows 8's straddling of the keyboard-and-mouse and touch-centric worlds as "trying to be cool like Apple while being functional like a nerd." He gives his thoughts on the opinion -- growing louder in recent days -- that...
I realize these were mentioned before, but for the life of me I could not find them so I am starting a new thread titled for these. They are important enough they deserve to be able to be found easily.

# windows8 Many people trying out the Windows 8 Developer Preview are noting that they cannot open some of the Metro style full-screen immersive apps when clicking on that app's tile in the start screen. This comes from having a screen resolution set below the minimum 1024x768 for Windows 8...
After reinstalling and disabling Metro, the Task Manager opens, but is blank. Wondering if anyone else had this issue. I can use a 3rd party Task Manager, but the Windows 8 one was kind of cool.

Microsoft has previewed Windows 8, described as “a reimagining” of the platform that’s now designed to scale from small screens to large, with or without touch and/or a keyboard. In a new video demo, which you can see after the cut, Microsoft shows its new Windows 8 Start screen, heavily...
share: digg facebook twitter I’d love to take credit, but I was far from the only tech journalist calling for Microsoft to take the fresh Windows Phone interface and put it on tablet PCs. Finally, it seems Microsoft has seen the potential of the “Metro” design and put it in the tablet user...
As you all know, Microsoft is hard at work making sure Windows 8 runs well on tablets, including a completely new, Windows Phone 7-like Metro user interface. Another similarity between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7, apparently, is that Microsoft will be controlling the hardware experience rather...
I think most Windows 8 followers are more interested in the changing UI’s of Windows 8 than they are minor tweaks to features that have been around for a number of Windows versions. Personally, I completely welcome new features and improvements to the next version of Windows, but the dual...
We're still waiting for Microsoft to blow us away with its strategy for tablet domination but, thanks to the latest build of Windows 8 to drip through onto the internets, we have yet another indicator that the company's hopes rely on that OS. Of course we already know that it'll run on ARM...
Remember that leaked build of Windows 8 that hit the torrents just a few days back? Already old hat. That was build 7850. Today we've got a peek at what claims to be a newer build, 7955 , of the upcoming OS and it's starting to show a few of those Metro flourishes we've all been anticipating. In...
Yes, the Windows 8 rumour mill is really spinning up now. This time around though, they're not really rumours, since the information is coming from Rafael Rivera and Paul Thurrott, long-time Microsoft enthusiasts with loads of insider access. They've got a bunch of screenshots showing a work in...
