Windows 10 13.4 minutes for boot time and restart time

I finally timed it today. Once i hit the power button to login screen was 10.3 monutes. Then for icons in taskbar to showup and wifi to connect, another 3.2 minutes 12gb ram 1tb hdd (256gb free) Amd quad core a10 5750 Page file is 2328 to 3300 (custom) Currently allocated is 2328, min allowed is 16mb I have no idea what is causing it to be so slooow. And was it good before?

How does it run once it finishes booting? If it's always slow that could be a sign of a failing hard drive. If only the boot process is slow then a boot log would be helpful.

• Download Process Monitor - Windows Sysinternals
• Launch procmon with the default filter
• Click on Options > Enable Boot Logging
• Reboot and immediately launch procmon again this should collect the boot logs
• Save and upload the PML file somewhere (It will be a large file)

Yes, i had win 8.1 but i installed win 10 via the update. The issue is, i cant seem to remember if slow right after win 10 update or if it was gradual... Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

Hi, if you open Task manager (right click task bar), look under 'Start Up', you can see which applications are starting with Windows and perhaps slowing it down. Try running these scans: File scans Right click on the Start menu icon and from the revealed list choose 'admin command prompt'. Type: sfc /scannow press enter and await results In the same command prompt and after the above scan has finished type: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Press enter and await results (longer this time). If the first scan found files it could not repair but the second scan is successful, run the first scan again using the same command prompt box and this time it should repair the files found.

Ok i finished the sans and no errors or anything. Did the restore health as well. Here is a poc of my task bar. Oh and i did a spybot scan and update Dont mind the slope fields on the second image. Thanks

You sorted the Task manager view on Name, please click on 'Disk' (top of 4th column) to see what really eats up your disk. And it may be or may not be the cause of your slow booting problem.

And let it go for say half an hour, it may be some system task, like reordering, malware check, which needs to compleet.

Did you install all W10 drivers from the HP support page? Did it help?

Could you give us your system spec's, that may be helpful.

Did anything show up in the logs which Neemobeer suggested?

Task manager doesn't always list everything for the disk usage. Procexp would give you a more accurate view. Also it depends at which points of the boot process are slow. If it's before it gets to the login screen it can be services or more likely drivers loading which the boot log would help better identify

Thats what i forgot was the boot logs. Im just confused to see why it says disk is 99% full when in "this pc" the drive reports like 75% full Ill look at the disk option again and sort by usage, not name. Haha Thanks guys Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

Ohh, that makes s3nse. However, when i sorted by size today, the largest one was firefox at 1.03mb and then the other 4 were below 0.5mb and then the rest were 0. It still seems odd to have it at 99% with only firefox usin 1.0x mb haha Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

I believe task manager only shows a processes main thread so you won't see all the IO on a per process basis.

Basically something is making your hardrive 'thrash' or run at 100%, as Neemobeer say's this issue isn't to do with how full the C drive is but it's actual usage. This little guide will help you determine what the probable cause is (or send the details in to us and we'll have a look for you) How to detect what process is thrashing your hard drive
