Windows 7 A minor irritant : Recent Places shortcut

No idea what I did, all of a sudden I have a Recent Places shortcut on my desktop and I am unable to delete because right click at it does not provide Delete option.
I tried to drag/drop the shortcut to Recycle Bin, wouldn't take it.
I even "removed" Recent Places from under Favorites folder, still I cannot get rid of its shortcut.
I don't want to do system restore unless I have to.

Any other idea ?

I googled and found the answer. So simple, but how could I have thought that way ?

Open Windows Explorer > drag/drop the desktop icon into Favorites > Refresh > desktop icon is gone.
Right click at the one that was dropped to Favorites > select Remove > that one is gone.
Done.
