I use an HTO Striker 7.1 soundcard.. downloaded their official x64 W7 drivers..

Upon them being installed, I can suddenly no longer run a program without right clicking and running as an administrator.

What could be the problem?

Solution
The issue you are facing with needing to run programs as an administrator after installing the HTO Striker 7.1 sound card drivers on Windows 7 x64 could be related to driver compatibility or user permissions. Here are a few potential reasons for this behavior: 1. Driver Compatibility: The drivers you downloaded may not be fully compatible with Windows 7 x64. This can lead to issues with system permissions and require programs to be run with elevated privileges. 2. User Account Control (UAC) Settings: User Account Control is a security feature in Windows that can prompt for permission or require administrative credentials when performing actions that could potentially affect your system. Installing certain drivers might trigger UAC to intervene and ask for elevated permissions. 3. Driver Installation Issues: There could have been issues during the installation of the sound card drivers that have resulted in improper permissions being set for certain system components. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: 1. Reinstall Drivers: Try uninstalling the HTO Striker 7.1 sound card drivers completely and then reinstall them. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully during the installation process. 2. Check Compatibility: Verify that the drivers you downloaded are specifically designed for Windows 7 x64. Using drivers meant for a different operating system or architecture can cause compatibility issues. 3. User Account Control Settings: You can adjust the UAC settings in Windows to prompt less frequently for permissions. However, it's recommended to keep UAC enabled for security purposes. 4. Check User Account Type: Ensure that your user account has administrative privileges. Running programs as an administrator might indicate that your account doesn't have sufficient permissions to access certain components. 5. Event Viewer: Check the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages or warnings related to the sound card drivers. This could provide more insight into the issue. By following these steps, you may be able to identify the root cause of the problem and take appropriate action to resolve it. If the issue persists, you may also consider reaching out to the manufacturer's support for further assistance with driver compatibility and installation.
