My desktop finished updating Windows 10 this morning, after which I got the dreaded "black screen". Has anyone else encountered this recently? I tried to call Microsoft, but evidently they no longer take phone calls and want you to go online to Just Answer for which there is a charge. If you're going to charge me after your upgrade screws up my computer, then let me choose whether or not to do the upgrade!

Solution
Experiencing a black screen issue after a Windows 10 update can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to address this problem: 1. Restart Your Computer: - Sometimes a simple restart can resolve certain display issues that occur post-update. 2. Boot into Safe Mode: - Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode to troubleshoot potential driver issues or software conflicts. To do this, press F8 upon startup or use Windows Recovery Mode to access Safe Mode. 3. If you can access Safe Mode, you can update or rollback your display drivers. 5. Use System File Checker: - Use the System File Checker tool (sfc /scannow) to check for and repair corrupted system files that may be causing the black screen. 6. Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE): - You can access WinRE by restarting your computer and choosing Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair. This can help fix boot issues. 7. Contact Microsoft Support: - If you're unable to resolve the issue with these steps, consider reaching out to Microsoft's online support forums or Microsoft Answer Desk for assistance. If none of these steps help, you may also consider using a bootable USB drive to access recovery options or perform a clean install of Windows. Remember to back up your important data before attempting any major changes to your system.
