Hey guys,

This has been happening since I purchased the computer back in March 2012 (it is a custom built PC). Random Blue screen errors (mostly BCcode 3d). Approx once or twice a month.

Wrapped my brain, can NOT seem to figure this out. I have included a dump file.

-- Additional Info --

Have noticed it happen (sometimes) when VLC player is paused, or watching a youtube vid using chrome or firefox. Can also happen when trying to access my TV card. I stopped accessing my TV card all together now. Updating TV card drivers and main program has not helped.

I have an i7 2700k on turbo overclock. SLI x2 EVGA 580 graphics cards. 3 monitors, one monitor is running off the mother board (I could not get 3 monitors working without disabling SLI or running 3D surround which I didn't want).

I have updated windows and gfx drivers whenever it happens. Keeps happening. This latest time, happened when playing Diablo 3 whilst VLC was paused after I had a youtube video paused.

I use a 1200W corsair power supply and an Intel 520 SSD 120GB 400i.

A copy and paste of the latest BSOD from Action Center;

Hi Jeremy! Welcome to W7 Forums!

First things first, please return ALL overclocked parts to stock settings (just for the debug) - feel free to re-overclock them once we have solved the problem.

Majority of problem reports come from hl2.exe (Half Life 2 Engine) - try reinstalling game such as Half Life 2 or Team fortress 2.

Hey there GeneralHiningII,

Thanks for looking over that for me. It appears the majority of the random bluescreens are the one your pointed that "out 3 out of the 4 dumps point to mv91xx.sys".

What is mv91xx.sys? And how would I go about updating this driver?

The fourth dump "Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2200 models 89xxx (Wiltshire)" was my TV card. He likes to BSOD around once in every 10 attempts at loading.

I've promptly updated or removed every other driver you have suggested. All except mv91xx.sys as I think I'd need more info on this before installing a new driver.

Thank you very much for looking over this for me! Really appreciate it!

Also, I can explain the "Majority of problem reports come from hl2.exe". That would be because I downloaded Black Mesa (hl2.exe mod) and it's not the worlds most stable game (I'm not complaining, it's a free game!). Often the hl2 engine would crash if I had my flashlight on pointing at something it didn't want to render. So it would exit to the desktop. I persisted and played until I completed it. So that would explain the hl2.exe crashes :p

I will try the changes you suggested and see how we go. Again, I haven't played with mv91xx.sys updates just yet. I want to be confident that I won't be installing a driver that will stop me from starting up or something.

Cheers!

Jeremy.

Ahh I understand, thank you.

Ok well now I am going to ask a very noob question. So I apologize in advance.

I am unsure as to how to update this driver. I assume this driver is in device manager - Storage Controllers - Marvell 911xx SATA 6G Controller. But attempting to update this nets me the message "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date." So I assume I'm doing something wrong here. If I'm not, is it advised I uninstall this driver and let windows install it again for me? Or have I got the wrong driver entirely.

My apologies, I'm not 100% sure as to what driver I am looking to update in my device manager.

This is exactly what I went into and I downloaded this driver;
Windows 7 & Server 2008 R2 x64 (64-bit)

This driver has been downloaded and is now sitting on my computer unzipped. The issue that I am having, however, is I am unsure how to install this driver. The help file provided in the zip says "In the "Device Manager", double-click your adapter."

Here's the noob question. I don't know which adapter it is. I don't know what I'm looking for.

You mentioned in previous posts that this is a "Marvell MV91xx AHCI/RAID driver" and that "It's a driver that controls your HDD/SDD data transfer and such".

In my device manager, I have a controller called "Storage Controllers". Upon extending the tree, I am presented with "JMicron JMB36X Controller" and "Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controllers". When I try updating the "Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controllers", with the downloaded driver, I am presented with "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."

When I try to update using "let me pick from a list of drivers" and I select Marvell 91xx SATA 6G controller clicking "have disk", I find where I downloaded the driver and upload the only file I can (yk62x64.inf), I get the error "The folder you specified doesn't contain the compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems" leading me to believe I don't have the right driver, or I am trying to update the wrong driver.

I'm not 100% sure as to which device driver to update.

It seems that the specified archive doesn't have the right files.

To install the driver, you need these three files:

yk62x64.sys: Miniport driver, NDIS6.2
yk62x64.inf: installation setup script
yk62x64.dll: installation libraryThe download link you gave me is missing the .dll file.
Since I don't use Marvell drivers (or any controller drivers), I can't exactly help you on this one - I do have a few recommendations however:

Also download the Windows Setup Installer from the same link and run setup.exe instead.

Go to
HTML:
www.windows7forums.com/windows-7-installation-upgrade/
and repeat your problem to them. That's all I can offer you right now. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Sorry for any inconvenience?!

Mate, you've been a tremendous help! I have now installed the other driver available on that site (the one that has the setup file available in the zip) so I guess I have done all I can (as per your suggestions).

Guess now all we can do is wait. Thank you for all your help! I hope this fixes it. I'll report back here if I keep getting problems. In the meantime, you've been great :)

Cheers.

Jeremy.

There's a history of problems running SSD's on Marvell controllers.
Try attaching the SSD to another controller on your motherboard (one that has an updated driver from 2012)

Still caused by the Marvell controller. Please update this.

If you can't locate the 2011 version of the Marvell drivers, please let us know the exact make and model of your motherboard. That'll help us to locate the appropriate driver(s).

Also, let us know if your hard drive/SSD is connected to the Marvell controller. It's not recommended to connect SSD's to the Marvell controller as the most updated drivers are from 2011.

Let us know the results and we'll move on from there.
