Windows 7 Can I change the default icons that appear on the taskBar when the executable runs?

You can easily get rid of icons on your taskbar by simply right clicking the icon, and choose "Unpin this program from taskbar". It won't uninstall, it just gets rid of the icon. All shortcuts and everything else remain. Likewise, you can add preferred programs to the taskbar: right click on the icon when the program is running, and choose "Pin this program to taskbar".

Default programs used can be chosen by right clicking the file type in Explorer, then going to "Open with", when it opens, click on "Choose default program", then choose what you want.

Hope I got it right.

To change the icon itself; go to programs list from the start button. Find the program you want, right click it and select properties. In that window select the short cut tab, then look for the "change icon" tab at the bottom of that window, click on it. Then select from the available list or choose browse and select an image of your own.

Quite like Bass says. You can also find tons of icons on various sites, or you can create your own ones. Downloading icons can be dangerous, because there may "secrets hidden" i.e. malware and such. Safe to stay with Windows.
