Windows 7 Cannot create shortcuts on desktop

If I right click on the desktop/new/shortcut, nothing happens. Before I had a window open to input the data for the shortcut.
Please advice.

Sounds like your new shortcut wizard / link association has become corrupted. The following saved as Fix Lnk.reg when merged into your registry will fix it.
