All the drives are shared but I can't open anything on the other computer and I have all drives shared for everyone with the right names and it says I don't have permission.

Solution
If you have shared all drives on your computer for everyone with the correct names but are still facing permission issues when trying to access them from another computer, there are a few possible reasons for this problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check File Sharing Settings: Ensure that file sharing is properly set up on both computers. Verify that the shared drives are accessible to everyone.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  2. Network Discovery and File Sharing: Make sure Network Discovery and File Sharing are turned on. This setting allows other computers on the network to see your computer and access shared files.
  3. Check Network Connection: Verify that both computers are connected to the same network. If they are on different networks or have network connectivity issues, file sharing may not work.
  4. Firewall Settings: Check the firewall settings on both computers. Sometimes, the firewall may be blocking file sharing. Temporarily disable the firewall for testing purposes.
  5. Workgroup Settings: Ensure that both computers are in the same workgroup. Computers in different workgroups may not be able to access shared resources.
  6. Credential Issues: When accessing shared resources, you may be prompted to enter a username and password. Make sure you are using the correct credentials.

    Additional Suggestions:

    • Mapping Network Drives: Try mapping the shared drives as network drives on the other computer. This can sometimes resolve permission issues.
    • Use Advanced Sharing: Instead of sharing the entire drive, consider sharing specific folders. This can provide more control over permissions.
    • Check Sharing Permissions: Double-check the sharing permissions on the drives or folders. Ensure that the appropriate permissions are set for the "Everyone" group.
    • Restart Computers: Sometimes, a simple restart of both computers can resolve network sharing issues. If after performing these steps you are still facing permission issues, let me know so we can explore further solutions to solve the problem.
