Hey

Having the com surrogate error come up when i run 2 clients when playing eve online. The error comes up at random times, could be 10 minutes or 3 hours.

The game runs fine when only running 1 client.
Have tried reinstalling windows and the game client, codecs, drivers are up to date.

Any help would be appreciated

Solution
The COM Surrogate error you are encountering while running two clients of EVE Online can be quite frustrating. This error typically involves the Dllhost.exe process, which is responsible for displaying thumbnails in File Explorer. It often occurs due to issues with codecs, file corruption, or conflicts with third-party applications. Here are a few steps you can take to address the COM Surrogate error:

Potential Solutions:

  1. Update Codecs: Make sure all your video codecs are up to date. Outdated codecs can cause compatibility issues with the Dllhost process.

  2. Check for Corrupted Files: Run a system file checker scan to check for any corrupted system files that could be causing the error. To do this, open a Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow.
  3. Disable Thumbnail Previews: Disabling thumbnail previews in File Explorer can sometimes resolve the issue. You can do this by going to Folder Options > View tab > Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails".
  4. Check Event Viewer: Check the Event Viewer for more detailed information about the error. Look for any specific error codes or messages that might give more insight into the cause of the problem.
  5. Check for Conflicting Software: Sometimes third-party software can interfere with the Dllhost process. Try disabling or uninstalling any recently installed software to see if the issue persists.
  6. Run in Compatibility Mode: Try running the EVE Online clients in compatibility mode. Right-click on the game's executable, go to Properties, and under the Compatibility tab, try different compatibility modes.
  7. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. Graphics driver issues can sometimes lead to COM Surrogate errors.
  8. Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows OS is fully updated. Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches to address known issues that could be related to the error.

    Additional Tips:

    • Monitor the Event Viewer closely when the error occurs to gather more specific information about the cause.
    • Keep an eye on resource usage (CPU, RAM) when running both clients to see if there is any abnormal behavior.
    • Ensure your system meets the minimum requirements for running EVE Online smoothly.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, please provide any specific error messages or codes you encounter, as they can help in further troubleshooting the problem.
