Windows 7 Computer lags/near freeze while installing games

running windows 7 64bit with 4gb ram.
Computer seems to basically freeze when i'm installing a large game/program.
Nothing else will respond though I can still move the mouse around. Its not
a major problem but wondering if there is any way to overcome this?
