Windows 7 Concerns About New Virus Targeting Windows 7: Seeking Guidance and Solutions

Is there a new virus out that is aimed at windows 7?. I just got a call from some "tech" telling me he was from MS... telling me a new virus was attacking windows 7... wanted $100 + to get rid of it. He also said MS Essentials anti virus couldn't stop it..
Is there such a virus?
And if so...how can I get rid of it?
Any help appreciated

MS does not make calls like this, ignore it.. a phishing scam to get your money. I however am bored, and will be bored for the next 2-3 hours, if you wish I will offer my services free of charge via remote to look over your system and tell you what I think about the state of your computer (i.e. any spyware or viruses). I'm not offering this because I'm a "staffer", I'm just bored and have nothing better to do PM me if you want to take me up on the offer.

Do you have any of the popular Instant Message programs installed? We can start that way...

User did not have a virus but instead has issues with an application, this issue has been closed and I will create a new thread with the application specific issue.
