A while ago my computer froze up and I couldnt do anything, so I had to restart it. When it came back up my D drive wasn't accesible. If i try to open it it says I need to format it to use it. If I click cancel it says

D:\ is not accessible.

The volume does not contain a recognized file system.
Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.

If i click format it says

Windows was unable to complete the format.

Is this a partition or a distinct, physically separate HDD? If, separate may actually be corrupt or has failed. Does it sound & feel right?

Regardless, take it out, hook to another machine, see what shows (or not) & or try to format it whilst on that machine.

Drew
