Hi! I had two partitions, one with XP Pro and another with Vista Home Premium. I then upgraded to Windows 7 on the Vista partition. Now I'm trying to delete the XP partition but I can't because I receive a message that states "delete is not allowed on the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume". How do I fix this? Help would be greatly appreciated.

To resolve the issue where you are unable to delete the XP partition due to it being listed as a system volume, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Change the System Files

  1. Change the Boot Files:
    • You need to make sure that the boot files are not on the XP partition. You might have to change the boot manager to point to the partition where your Windows 7 installation resides.
    []Boot Configuration Data (BCD):
    • Update the BCD settings to ensure that they point to the correct partition.

Step 2: Set the Windows 7 Partition as Active

    [
    ]Disk Management:
    • Go to Disk Management in Windows 7.
    • Set the Windows 7 partition as Active. This will make it the boot partition.

Step 3: Remove the XP Partition

  1. Using Disk Management:
    • Once you have set the Windows 7 partition as Active, try deleting the XP partition from Disk Management.

Step 4: Repair the Boot Configuration

  2. Boot Repair:
    • If after deleting the XP partition your system doesn't boot correctly, you may need to repair the boot configuration.
    • You can use the Windows 7 installation media to repair the boot configuration. Boot from the installation media and choose the repair option.

      Additional Tips:

      • Backup Important Data: Ensure you have important data backed up before making any changes to partitions.
      • Check System Integrity: It's crucial to ensure the system integrity before making changes to the partitions.
By following these steps, you should be able to delete the XP partition without encountering the error you mentioned. If you need further assistance or encounter any issues during the process, feel free to ask for help.
