Sometimes, if i try to return from hibernation (or whatever its called after the screen shuts down), the desktop gets entirely stuck. i can move the mouse though, but when clicking ctrl+alt+delete most of the times it will get stuck in another screen, and i never get to log off. there are no icons on the desktop, even though i do have a few. i found that when that happens, theres a little highlighted line in the bottom of the screen - a program running (my taskbar is on autohide), and i think its chrome. so its possible it happens when i leave chrome running. any help with this? :\ the only option i got is to shut it down the hard way.

Solution
It sounds like your system is encountering issues when returning from hibernation, with the desktop becoming unresponsive but the mouse still movable. This could be related to a specific program causing the problem, possibly Chrome as you noted. Let's troubleshoot this issue and try to find a solution:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Power Settings:
    • Make sure your power settings are correctly configured. Sometimes, power settings can cause issues with hibernation and waking up the system.
    []Update Drivers:
    • Ensure that your system's drivers are up to date, especially graphics and chipset drivers. Outdated drivers can sometimes lead to such issues.

    ]Disable Chrome on Startup:...

    ]Disable Chrome on Startup:
    • Try disabling Chrome from starting up automatically with Windows. This can be done by going into the Task Manager > Startup tab.
    []Clear Chrome Cache:
    • Clearing the cache and cookies in Chrome might help resolve any issues related to the browser causing system instability.
    [
    ]Run System File Checker (SFC):
    • Running an SFC scan can help in identifying and repairing corrupted system files that might be causing the desktop freeze.
    []Check Event Viewer:
    • Look at the Event Viewer after experiencing these issues to see if there are any error messages or warnings that could provide more insight into the problem.
    [
    ]Create a New User Profile:
    • Create a new user profile and see if the issue persists under that profile. If not, it could indicate a problem with your user profile.

      Additional Information:

    • Highlighted Line at the Bottom:
    • The highlighted line at the bottom could indeed indicate a program running or possibly stuck. It's likely that this is Chrome if you suspect it.
    • Task Manager Shortcut:
    • If you're having trouble with Ctrl + Alt + Delete, try using Ctrl + Shift + Esc to directly open the Task Manager without going through the additional screen.
    • Hard Shutdown:
    • While it's not ideal, a hard shutdown is sometimes necessary when the system becomes unresponsive. However, it's best to resolve the underlying issue to prevent this. Try these steps and see if they help in resolving the desktop freeze issue when returning from hibernation. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you find any specific error messages in the Event Viewer that could help diagnose the problem more accurately.
