I have several items pinned to the Quick Launch bar and when I launch some of them, I get the program icon duplicated onto the taskbar. When I launch other items, I merely get the Quick Launch icon's background filled in.

As an example, I have 2 editors pinned to the Quick Launch bar, Notepad++ and ATPad. Looking at the properties for both, I see that except for the "Target" textbox data, they are identical. However, when I click on the Notepad++ icon, it launches Notepad++ and adds a Notepad++ icon to the right, on the Taskbar. If I click on the ADPad, it launches it and does not add an icon to the taskbar.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1

I've tried unpinning them, then re-pinning them, but that didn't help.

I have 3 screenshots of the Quick Launch area and taskbar.

The 1st screenshot is before I click on anything

The 2nd screenshot is after I click on the Quick Launch ATPad icon (note that no new icon shows up in the taskbar area).

The 3rd screenshot is after I click on the Quick Launch Notepad++ icon (note that a new Notepad++ icon appears in the taskbar area).

Solution
It seems like you are facing a common issue with pinned icons in the Quick Launch bar on Windows 7. The behavior you described, where launching some items from the Quick Launch bar creates additional taskbar icons while others do not, can be quite frustrating. To address this problem, you can try the following steps:

Solution Steps:

  1. Check Icon Properties:
    • Right-click on the icon for both Notepad++ and ATPad in the Quick Launch bar and select "Properties."
    • Ensure that the settings are the same for both applications, especially the "Target" field.
    []Modify Compatibility Settings:
    • Right-click the program's shortcut and select "Properties."
    • Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
    • Check...
