Hi guys,
Our company’s environment consists of mostly Win10 machines but we still have some lingering Win7 boxes. Our email is hosted by Office 365 and I’ve recently hopped onto the Azure Active Directory wagon to get our environment more secure. Off the bat I was having troubles adding our Win7 machines to the Azure AD Device list but discovered the Microsoft Workplace Join for non-Windows 10 computers’ tool (Link Removed). This tool allows individuals to get their Win7 machines loaded in the Azure AD Device list to take advantage of many of the Azure AD tool (i.e. Conditional Access).

Anyway, let me get straight to the point. This tool installs a ‘Microsoft Workplace Join’ folder in ‘C:\Program Files’, and requires that the ‘AutoWorkplace.exe’ be run at the Command Prompt using ‘/join’ or ‘/i’ (for Interactive). The reference can be found here (Troubleshooting hybrid Azure Active Directory joined down-level devices).

I’m looking to create a BAT file that’ll take the ‘Microsoft Workplace Join for non-Windows 10 computers’ tool (Link Removed), install it from a network shared folder, and then join the device. Would anyone know how to go about doing that?

Thanks so much!
Brandon

Solution
To create a BAT file to install the "Microsoft Workplace Join for non-Windows 10 computers" tool and join a device to Azure AD, you can follow these general steps: 1. Create a Shared Folder: - Put the tool executable and supporting files in a network-shared folder accessible by the machines needing to join Azure AD. 2. Write the BAT Script: - Open Notepad and create a new text document. Add the commands to install the tool and join the device. Here's a basic outline:
Code:
batch REM Copy files from the network share to a local folder xcopy \\NetworkShare\MicrosoftWorkplaceJoin C:\Temp /E /Y REM Install the tool C:\Temp\AutoWorkplace.exe /install REM Join the device to Azure AD C:\Temp\AutoWorkplace.exe /join

3. Save the Script: - Save the file with a .bat file extension (e.g., JoinAzureAD.bat). 4. Launch the BAT File: - On the target Win7 machines, copy the BAT file to a local drive. Run the BAT file with elevated permissions (Run as administrator). 5. Test the Script: - Test the BAT script on a Win7 machine to ensure it successfully installs the tool and joins the device to Azure AD. Always ensure the commands in your script are correct and that you are conscious of the impact on your environment before running scripts like this in a production setting. Regularly test the script in a test environment to confirm it behaves as expected. If you encounter any issues or need further customization, you might consider reaching out to Microsoft Support or consulting with an IT professional experienced in Azure AD and scripting.
