I have SpeedFan installed in W7 and it works fine. The problem is, that each time I power up and boot into W7, the icon is no longer visible in the Taskbar area. And, each time I go into "customize" to get it back, there is one more instance of SpeedFan in there and I have to choose "show icon & notification" for the latest instance to get it back.

Other icons I have showing stay like that (ESET anti virus).

Solution
It seems like SpeedFan's icon visibility in the Taskbar area is not persisting across reboots in Windows 7, and you have to manually set it to show each time you boot up. This issue might be related to how the notification area settings are managed in Windows 7. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Method 1: Reset Notification Area Icons Cache

  1. Close SpeedFan: Ensure that SpeedFan is closed.
  2. Open Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  3. End Explorer Process: In the Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, and right-click on explorer.exe. Then, click on End Process.
  4. Restart Explorer: In the Task Manager, go to File -> New Task (Run...

Method 2: Reconfigure SpeedFan Startup Behavior

  5. Change Startup Behavior: You can try changing the startup behavior of SpeedFan to see if that helps.
    • Right-click on the SpeedFan shortcut.
    • Select Properties.
    • Go to the Compatibility tab.
    • Check "Run this program as an administrator" and click OK.

Method 3: Use Taskbar Settings

  1. Customize Notification Icons:
    • Right-click on an empty space on the Taskbar and select Properties.
    • Go to the Notification Area tab.
    • Click on Customize.
    • Find SpeedFan in the list and set the behavior to "Show icon and notifications."

      Method 4: Registry Edit (Advanced)

[]Registry Backup: Before making changes, it's recommended to back up your registry. []Registry Edit:
    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
    • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify.
    • Delete the values IconStreams and PastIconsStream.
    • Restart Windows Explorer or reboot your system. After trying these steps, restart your system to see if the SpeedFan icon now persists in the Taskbar area after each reboot. If the issue persists, there might be other factors influencing the behavior that require further investigation. Let me know if you need more assistance or if you encounter any issues while trying these solutions!
